Relax in Haus Ooray above Narrabeen Lakes
Description
Set in native gardens adjoining bushland, "Haus Ooray" was architecturally designed as a tranquil stylish retreat. Catch glimpses of the Lakes, while in bed, or BBQing on the deck, sitting by the fire pit or in the Cabana, beside a creek. Enjoy local beaches, villages and cafés, paddle on Narrabeen Lakes or explore Sydney, Manly, Garigal and Kuringai Chase National Parks. Mountain bikers have direct access to local mountain bike trails. The space Sitting on top of Narrabeen Lakes, "Haus Ooray” (Indigenous word for Davidson Plum, which grows at the front of the deck providing fruit for the yummy jam you'll find in the fridge) landed in the lush pocket at the front of our property at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, directly adjoining bushland. Please be aware that under no circumstances do we accept bookings for children under 13. The guesthouse and garden are not suitable for younger kids as there are no fences to separate the space from bushland, steep rocky terrain and the creek bed running through the property. We built this 1-bedroom, self-contained guest house as a private 56sqm space with good-sized open plan, fully equipped kitchen-living-dining room and a spacious bathroom. The bedroom, overlooking the garden and catching glimpses of Narrabeen Lakes, is furnished with a comfortable Queen-size bed and a cute spacious wardrobe and full-length mirror. You can use the washing machine and clothes dryer in the separate laundry (shared by us on occasion). As a seasoned and passionate mountain biker, Markus will happily share his local knowledge of trails that you can access directly from here. You are also very welcome to use the front garden with fire pit (conditions permitting) and the cabana overlooking bushland and the lake, next to which a creek runs down to Deep Creek Reserve. We live at the back of the property and you can have as much contact or privacy as you wish. However, as our driveway runs past the guesthouse, you may see and/or hear us when we leave or arrive home or use the garage. Apart from the general birdlife chatter you may at times hear our two small dogs, Dash and Molly, and our flock of chickens. Guest access Parking is on-street: please park on our side of the street to the left or right of the driveway. The sliding gate to the driveway will be closed during the night, your key includes a remote . If you are arriving late please let me know in advance and I'll arrange access for you. There is a short timber boardwalk to the guesthouse with a few steps up the deck to the entrance level. There is a light sensor that will turn on exterior lights for late arrivals. You can switch the sensor off inside. I can either let you in in person or you can access the Haus with the keys stored in a lockbox which you'll find to the right of the entrance doors. I'll send you a personal code before arrival. To open the box flap, please open its cover and push down the top button. You'll have the entire Haus and the adjoining garden surrounding the deck to yourself/yourselves. We designated the fire pit and cabana as a shared space, which is still work-in-process and which we may use too sometimes. We also may be doing some weeding, watering or planting in those garden areas. The laundry is located in a separate little room on the right side of the Haus. They are also used by us for a fridge and freezer and, when it is raining, we sometimes use the dryer. Other things to note Haus Ooray is a Passivhaus, built to self-regulate the room climate and temperature at all times. This is, ideally, achieved by keeping the windows closed and letting the alternating heat recovery fans in the living room and bedroom run. We know this may not be practical (especially at night), thus we would like to ask you to operate the fans when you are out: Please turn off the heater, shut all windows before you leave, slide the bedroom door open and switch on the Heat Recovery fan (left of entrance). If you would like to know more about Passivhaus construction, there is a booklet about it on the shelf or ask Markus who is a builder specialising in Passivhaus building.
