Beautiful, comfortable, hand-built RUSTIC cabin with two full-sized beds. Instant book AFTER you have read our page details (no shower!) Young kids not recommended or those who have trouble climbing stairs. Adventurers paradise! 30 minutes to Duluth. Kitchenette, composting toilet, bedding, bottled water, wood stove, solar power OFF-GRID (no fridge or power capacity for C-PAP!), hiking trails, picnic table and fire ring. Park next to the pond. Dogs: leashed and not left alone while you are out. At Woods and Meadows Farm we have 40 acres of land, about half of it is woods. Your cabin, Raven Watch, is between part of the woods and a large meadow next to a one-acre pond. The cabin has excellent cross-ventilation and screens (bug-proof), and sliding glass doors for a pretty view of the pond. The cabin is easy to warm with the wood stove on chilly nights. Wood is provided. Lots of glass all around for a refreshing view, especially overlooking the pond from upstairs. You will have space to eat, play cards and visit downstairs, but if you like, enjoy the picnic table and fire ring outside. The private composting toilet is off this main living space. When you arrive we will give you a brief orientation, then check with you during your stay to be sure everything is working well for you. We have one other rental cabin on the land, closer to our house, called Dragon Loft, that got the popular vote for third best Hipcamp site in Minnesota for 2021. It can be found on that website (at Woods and Meadows Farm in Wrenshall.) I hope that you will enjoy the Raven Watch cabin as much as we do. It got its name because there is a large nest of ravens in the woods across the pond where new chicks are raised every year. Please do not disturb the birds or other animals. You may see deer, and sometimes other large creatures... Remember to keep pets on a lead! There are many marked trails in our woods to explore here... We are wildlife/indigenous plant lovers who enjoy sharing this special space with you. Welcome! You will find our driveway off County Road One, south of Wrenshall. There are a number of ways to arrive here, so put it in your GPS once you are registered for a stay. Needless to say, it is not on "Highway One" which would take you up the Gunflint Trail. ;) Text us along the way if you have trouble, but it is easy to find. Our mailbox has the fire number on it in reflective numbers, east side of the road. Our gravel drive turns through some trees from the road that hide our house. Once you drive in, you will see the house in front of you, and a gravel turn to the left, towards the barn. Do not drive up the barn, but take an immediate right behind the row of trees, following the gravel drive down the hill. Landmarks: You will slowly pass the other cabin up on a little hill to your right (watch for people and other vehicles) and continue past it for a few hundred yards, all the way to the end of the drive. Before you get to YOUR cabin you will glimpse the pond on your left, and the hayfield will be to your right. Park next to the solar panels in front of the big rock next to the cabin. Walk down toward the pond to the entrance of the cabin. We will most likely meet you at the house first, or at least at the cabin, as you arrive. Come and go as you please, but do stay on the gravel. *It is a one-lane road, so watch for our service vehicle, humans walking, or our friendly farm dog! No driving on the hayfield. We may have other guests at our home or staying in the other cabin, so please proceed slowly and carefully when on our drive, as people may be out for a hike, or coming and going with their own vehicles. :) Thanks! There is a folder in your cabin with directions for your comfortable and independent stay. It also contains our contact information if you need help or have more questions.. Rural property 20 miles outside of Duluth, near Jay Cooke State Park. Closest towns: Wrenshall, Carlton, Cloquet. Located on County Road 1 south of Wrenshall. Gravel driveway to parking next to the cabin. PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU REGISTER: 1) Plan ahead: no shower or fridge at this cabin. BYO Cooler. :) Solar does not support extra electrical appliances. (C-PAP, fans, blow-drier, electric blanket, etc.) Remember that this is a unique north-woods experience, so be aware that you can still be totally comfortable, but you will be without a shower or a fridge. *We are hoping to refine the system so the solar panels will support a small fridge without sapping the battery (and therefore having no lights, either), but in the meantime, we will ask everyone to bring their own cooler with ice. 2) Please read the info about bringing a dog. It is difficult to keep a rustic cabin clean, so please no dogs on the beds, wipe off wet and mud before you let them in, etc. Kennel or dog beds requested. 3) Know your own limitations. Sorry, we are not ADA compliant. This is a rustic place. Also, the heavy-duty staircase inside the cabin has a 12-inch (higher than normal) rise on the steps to the second floor. Please keep this in mind before renting, if you have any issues with strength or balance. Most folks will be able to climb and descend without a problem. If there are only two of you and you can't do the stairs, the safe option is to sleep on the very comfortable futon/bed (with extra memory foam) in the living room downstairs. Be sure to communicate with us about any of this. Also: It goes without saying that due to the nature of being in the country, there are hazards. Not limited to uneven ground, streams, ponds, fallen trees, unexpected obstacles... Sometimes you might see a mouse! (-Rare, but keep your food secure in tight bins or the fridge. This is a cabin, not a house.) Please be careful when out and about on our land. We do our best to keep the trails clear. Help us by taking care while hiking and exploring. :)
