The space Nestled on a quiet residential road in the historic hamlet of Chichester, our cottage sits uniquely perched on a bank overlooking an ever-flowing stream, giving the feeling of floating over the rushing water below. Originally built by the Schwartzwaelder furniture company around 1880, Flowing Water is one of a cluster of 19th-century cottages draped along Stony and Ox Clove creeks, surrounded by forest, rock, and sky. Inside, the space is bright and airy with an open-concept layout, cozy furnishings, and a thoughtfully balanced design that invites you to slow down and soak in the natural beauty of the property. Downstairs, the fully equipped kitchen flows into a dining area for six, which opens to a comfy living room with a wood-burning stove at its heart. Two sets of sliding doors bring the outside in. Step through them onto a spacious deck overlooking the stream, where you’ll find a gas grill and an unbeatable spot for morning coffee, sunset dinners, or simply listening to the babbling brook below. In the backyard, unwind in the hot tub beneath the stars or gather around the firepit after a day of hiking, skiing, or exploring. But the real star of the show is the stream that snakes along the property. Wander along small pathways over rocks and through the trees to discover root formations, little falls, stone pools, and quiet nooks for basking in the streamside ambiance. The setting is peaceful, private, and soothing. Upstairs, a cozy open loft offers a plush combo chaise/sleeper sofa—perfect for curling up with a book, music, or a glass of wine. A memory foam topper and twin air mattress are available to make it a comfortable third sleeping space. Off the loft are two primary bedrooms: One has a full-size bed and a private balcony with vaulted views of the forest and stream. Sleep to the ever-present sound of flowing water as a perpetual white noise machine. The second is furnished with a queen bed, large dresser, and closet. Windows overlook the stream, backyard, and there's a cute sitting nook with views up the valley. Sleep areas are upstairs. While the property is private and peaceful, we are located on a residential street with a few neighboring homes visible, including on the far side of the stream. In respect to these neighbors, we ask all guests to review our full house rules before booking, particularly as regards hot tub and firepit hours and outside noise levels.
