Experience history with a modern twist by visiting the popular attraction known as Bube's Brewery. It was originally founded by Bavarian immigrant, Alois Bube, who established the brewery and the Central House Hotel in 1889. In continuous operation ever since, the establishment is now a microbrewery & restaurant offering guests the very best in ales, casual fare, fine dining and interactive events. The Malt Baron’s Mansion is the historic home of Philip Frank, a leading citizen of Mount Joy, Lancaster County and owner of one of the largest malt making factories on the East Coast. He sold his malt (the main ingredient in beer) to breweries all over the northeast in the late 1800’s. As would befit a man of his stature, he built a fine brick mansion at 109 North Market Street in his home town. Across the street from his home is a brewery built (with Philip’s backing) by his friend Alois Bube who also ran a hotel at the location and lived there with his family as well (102 North Market Street). As guests at the Malt Baron’s Mansion, we hope you will enjoy staying directly across the street from Bube’s Brewery, currently an active brewery, dining, and entertainment complex with three restaurants, an outdoor Biergarten, a hotel, museum, ballroom, underground Catacombs, an escape room, and of course, a brewery making some very tasty beers. The Malt Baron’s Mansion includes two suites that can be rented individually (each having a private entrance) or collectively (interior doors can be unlocked to combine them for a larger group). Each of the suites can be rented as a two bedroom or one bedroom unit (we charge less if you only need one bedroom). Each of the suites has a living room, dining area, full kitchen, and a full private bathroom each with a bathtub/shower. Each unit includes a TV with basic cable, Wifi, and streaming capability. We like our guests to know that the Mansion is run by Bube’s Brewery and if anything special is needed (extra chairs, blankets, projector screen, extra cooking utensils, etc.) we probably have it and are happy to provide such things for your stay. Of course we are happy to host you for lunch, dinner, a nightcap, or a tour of our very special historic complex right across the street. The Caroline Frank Suite – Two bedrooms, side porch right by side street parking, back porch with gas grill, bedrooms and half bath upstairs, full bath downstairs, full size sofa bed downstairs, large living/dining area, large kitchen with washer and dryer (over/under), and a large balcony accessible from master bedroom. There is always someone available to help you across the street at the brewery. Mount Joy has the small town charm you would expect in a Lancaster County, Pa. village. Many shops, restaurants, thrift stores, coffee shops, and parks (one is 200 yards from the Mansion) are nearby. A nice town for walking or biking (not hilly), you could even come by train and walk to the Mansion as a brand new Amtrak train station is only a block away. Mount Joy is in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and the attractions in the county are far too numerous to mention here, please go to Discover Lancaster's website for more information. The city of Lancaster, Pa. is eight miles away, Hershey, Pa. is 25 minutes away, Gettysburg, Pa. is an hour away, and Philadelphia, Pa. is 1 ½ hours away by car, but only an hour away by train and you could easily visit downtown Philadelphia and come back the same day! The Susquehanna River is 10 minutes away and has an exceptional bike trail following it on the Lancaster County side. Local outfitters offer kayaking on the river (or bring your own – we have plenty of room to store them). The historic towns of Marietta, Columbia, and Wrightsville are on the river and well worth a visit. The river also has several historic attractions, boat ramps, two marinas (one will rent you a pontoon boat), parks, hiking trails, and some of the best overlooks in the east (go to Susquehanna Heritage's website). Spooky Nook sports complex is three miles away, numerous colleges are nearby, Ski Roundtop is half an hour away and offers snow tubing if you’re not a skier, and Hersheypark is just under half an hour away. The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is 15 minutes away and offers activities throughout the year. The Donegal Springs Air park is 10 minutes away if you want to fly your plane here (we’ll come get you)(you can even learn to skydive there!) or if you come by commercial air carrier, you can fly to Harrisburg International or Philadelphia International and either rent a car or get here from either by train (if you have a lot of luggage we’ll come to the station and help you). We are walking distant to the Mount Joy Amtrak train station and Uber services our area. It is a short walk to all of the quaint downtown shopping and dining. Bube's Brewery offers many options for drinking, dining and entertainment. If you would like to attend their events, many are available online at the Bube's Brewery website, if you would like to make dinner reservations, contact them by phone.
