Description
We welcome guests of all races, faiths, genders, sexual orientations, and countries of origin. Over a bridge and steps from the Embudo River, this stylish, well-equipped cottage is nestled under cottonwood trees in a private canyon facing a stunning rock face. Relax on the deck overlooking the water, and during late spring and early summer, listen to the river as you fall asleep. The quaint village of Dixon (an artist and vineyard, orchard, organic farm community) is just a mile away. The space What we love best about this private canyon is the spectacular canyon wall, the trees and shade, the river that runs through it, and the constant sound of water on the property during late spring/early summer. A private patio with table and chairs and bench is just outside the back door. A beautiful deck overlooks the river. During the day, you can venture out to explore the open landscape -- enjoy the sun, heat, and arid climate, and the attractions of the busy, neighboring towns-- then retreat to this canyon refuge and find relief in its cool river, light breezes, shade trees, and birdsong. The property is densely populated with cottonwood, pinon, and juniper trees; in spring and summer, the fragrance of these and other native plants (e.g., sage) fills the air. Right outside the front door is a long porch (portal) that faces the canyon rock face with benches for relaxing and watching the sun rise. Although the owners live on the property, wood screens provide the privacy needed in the outdoor seating areas. The interior space is an open plan (living/dining/kitchen) with high ceilings and exposed beams throughout. The kitchen and bathroom (with shower) are fully equipped; the bathroom has quality towels and the bedroom, quality bedding. The bedroom is spacious and includes a king-size bed and full closet. A single (very comfortable) bed is located in a corner of the living area and another roll-out bed with good mattress is available for a fourth person. Guest access All parts of the property are available for exploring. The deck along the river (with seating for four) and the patio in back of the guesthouse (with table and chairs and a bench) are exclusively for our guests. You can also fish for brown trout along the Embudo River as well as enter the water on warm summer days. We give our guests complete privacy so they can experience this property as their own. Other things to note We have three overhead fans in the living area, kitchen, and bedroom. We have not needed air conditioning because the guesthouse is surrounded by large shade trees. Guests open the windows at night to let in the cool mountain air and close them during the day to trap the cool air while they are out exploring. This has worked very well for our guests. As noted in many of our reviews, this property is centrally located for easy access to many of northern New Mexico's most beautiful and popular destinations. Specifically, we are located 22 miles south of Taos, 39 miles northeast of Abiquiu, and 45 miles north of Santa Fe. We are only 1/2 mile from the Rio Grande River. Activities within easy driving distance include hiking, white-water rafting and kayaking, tubing, horseback riding, art galleries, three wineries and a brew pub, and antiquing, to name a few.
