Welcome to our cozy and spacious Birdsong Suite! Tucked in the lush foothills of Mt Helix, on a private road, this private one-bedroom unit will accommodate up to 6 travelers (perfect for a family!). The pool and hot tub are a delight after a day of exploring. The San Diego Zoo, downtown, and Balboa Park are a mere 20 minute drive. Downtown La Mesa is only 5 minutes by car and has restaurants to suit every taste. We look forward to having you stay at our peaceful getaway! The space -This 900 sq. ft. unit is on the bottom floor of our two-story house. There are no interior shared areas. -The spacious living room offers plenty of seating, with options for games, music and streaming television. We have converted an old piano to a desk with lighting and charging station. This space also contains a queen sofa-bed and a queen futon. -The bedroom contains 2 queen size beds. Also a large dresser + a closet to hang your clothes. -The kitchenette includes a 2 burner induction hotplate, microwave, toaster, full-size refrigerator, Instant pot, drip coffee maker, french press, electric kettle, blender, waffle-iron, pots & pans, dishes and utensils. *There is no oven in the unit* For outdoor cooking we have a propane gas barbecue. -Guests have a separate entrance and all doors inside the unit that connect to the main house are locked on both sides and soundproofed. -The unit has a stairway inside that we keep blocked off with a safety gate and plants. The door remains locked from both sides. Please stay off the stairs. - The pool/hot-tub is shared with my polite, respectful family who lives upstairs. *The pool is not heated* *hot tub use is limited to 2 hours per day* - Please note that we have old creaky floors and noisy plumbing upstairs - this is especially noticeable in the living room area. We take extra care to step lightly after 10pm, but we have also provided earplugs (in the medicine cabinet). -Your hosts live in both the upstairs and the locked-off areas of the downstairs. Please be respectful and keep the noise levels low after 10pm. - There is a portable Air Conditioner in the living room area in the summer & a window AC unit in the bedroom, but usually there is no need; the space stays naturally cool most of the time. If using the Air Conditioners, please do not leave them on when you are not there. *Extra items kept in hallway closet: - beach supplies include: towels, umbrella, folding chairs, boogie boards & sand toys. - pack-n-play (travel crib) & high chair for babies. - clothes iron, ironing board & folding clothes drying rack. Guest access Guests have access to the patio outside their entrance, the pool/spa area with multiple outdoor dining and lounging options & a propane gas barbecue. Parking is limited to 2 vehicles (2nd parking spot is a short walk down the hill). No street parking is available. Other things to note -Any guests over 4 people will incur a charge of $25 per night, with a total guest limit of 6. *We will not allow any guests not registered on the booking to be on the premises* -The unit is on the ground floor, under the main house and you may hear footsteps, plumbing, and creaky floors. -We do not heat the pool, but the spa is easily heated. Instructions for turning it on/off are provided, and it only takes about 30 minutes to heat (please limit your use of spa to 2 hours per day, not after 10pm). * Under no circumstances will guests not registered on the booking be allowed to enter the pool or hot tub * -As of this writing, there are 16 live plants inside of the guest suite. If you will be staying for more than 7 days, we will need to come in to water them. We will coordinate with you the best time to do this during your stay. -We share the outside areas with a lot of wildlife, please be aware you may hear a coyote pack at night or see a skunk passing by.
