Enjoy the splendor of Lake Superior at our cozy, rustic cottage near Port Wing, WI. Situated halfway between Duluth/Superior and Bayfield, it's the perfect location to visit all your favorite South Shore locations. There's no need to choose between privacy & the difficulties of accessing remote properties. Our cottage is located within 68 acres of private, wooded wilderness. Yet since we're next to the Wisconsin Lake Superior Scenic Byway (Hwy 13), it's easy to get wherever you want to go! Our cottage is a rustic Applachian-style A-frame with a loft. Our main floor bedroom offers a queen bed with a private door to the bathroom. The bathroom has a freestanding soaking tub for relaxing, or there's a shower curtain surround if you'd prefer to shower. There's a small stacked washer & dryer unit for cleaning you can use during your stay. We have a full kitchen with everything you need to cook your own meals. You'll have to wash your dishes by hand, though, since we don't have a dishwasher. An ample loft upstairs keeps the entire home feeling open & bright, and provides two twin beds for additional guests, or you can use them as an extra-long sofa for lounging. Depending on the time of year, you might be able to spot Lake Superior peeking through the tree line from the loft windows. We have a propane grill outside on our deck, and there's a bonfire pit in the yard. Inside, we have a wood-burning stove that you can use for that extra boost of hygge (coziness). In the warmer months, enjoy our large porch with rocking chairs & bistro table. It's the perfect vantage point for watching the hummingbirds flit between our apple tree and the nectar feeders on our porch. There is ample space for parking on our property. Our driveway circles around the large maple tree in front of our cottage, so you can unload/load your vehicles with ease. The other buildings on the property (garage and car ports) are not available to guests, but you may see us there from time to time, working on our new projects. (We are currently renovating a vintage Airstream for a future listing.) Guests are free to explore the rest of our property, but we cannot be held liable for any accidents/injuries/illnesses that may occur when wandering around the woods. There have been many big storms over the past few years and we have far too much acreage to maintain it all. Please be careful of falling trees, rough or grown-over trails, and especially wild animals. DO NOT trespass on our neighbors properties, especially during hunting season. Wear blaze orange as a precaution, even in off season. Bring a first aid kit with you, and other appropriate hiking gear. You will not have cell service on much of our property, so plan ahead to make sure you don't get lost! WINTER GUESTS Plowing: We have a local father/grandson team who plows the snow for us. They each service around 100 residents, so please be patient when there is snow. If you have an immediate need (check-in/check-out), we will provide you with their phone number upon check-in so you can contact them. They will do their best to accommodate you as soon as they can (they have done an amazing job prioritizing our guests when needed this year). Shoveling/steps: We have not been able to find anyone in the area who can shovel the front steps yet (due to local labor shortages). We try to keep the path from parking to the cottage maintained as well as we can on our own, but we don't make it out that often in the winter. Please keep this in mind when booking during the winter months. There is a shovel outside and salt/sand for you to use. If you are unable/unwilling to shovel ~10' to the front door, or would have difficulty walking a short distance through snow/ice, PLEASE DO NOT BOOK during the winter. We would love to ensure a complete cleared entry to the cottage, but at this time, we've been unable to find the help we need to do so. Our cabin is located in the middle of 68 acres of beautiful forest just outside Port, Wing WI, less than 1/3 mile from the shores of Lake Superior. Our cottage is in a very rural area of Northwest Wisconsin, so a car is required to get pretty much anywhere. There are lots of ATV trails around our area, but unfortunately they aren't accessible from our property. Make sure you stay on the trails and don't drive on the highways! We don't allow ATV, snowmobiles, or any other motorized vehicles on our property except for the driveway & roads (don't drive them on any of our trails). Port Wing is a couple of miles away from our cottage. It's a very small town, so there's not much more than a small convenience store and a coffee shop. Herbster is a few more miles in the other direction, and has a few more small stores. Cornucopia is a 15-min drive and has a great restaurant (Fat Radish) and general store (Ehlers). The closest town with a larger grocery & hardware store is Iron River, which is about 20 minutes away. We recommend planning ahead and buying your groceries/supplies on your way to the cottage.
