Description

Restored 1811 stone home on over 100 acres in the Champlain Valley/Adirondack Park in Essex NY includes views of Vermont's Green Mountains across Lake Champlain. New this year is an amazing screened porch! Essex is on the National Register of Historic Places, a ferry ride from Vermont and close to the Adirondack High Peaks! Great for couples, families, groups, and is pet friendly. 1-Br apartment is also available for couples. See Porcupine Farm Barn listing. The space Here is a recent review that kind of says it all! We had a glorious stay. Audrey's place-nestled in a valley between Vermont's Green Mountains standing sentinel over Lake Champlain and New York's Adirondacks-is a circa 1850 (actually 1811) Greek Revival stone farmhouse idyllically sited and lovingly restored, generously and warmly proportioned and imaginatively and comfortably furnished. The kitchen, for example, is spacious and well-appointed with a chef's stove and high-end appliances, professional cookware, whimsical and artisanal place settings and a large center island . You'll find bedrooms, the dining room, and the living room equally appealing. Delicious spring water flows from all taps. Here you'll find silence and serenity, and a sparkling cast of characters: Audrey is a gracious and engaging host and champion equestrian. A platoon of risibly imperious Guinea Hens parades about while winsome pigmy goats keep an eye on things. So enough with the reviews; you'll be happy here beyond all telling. Nice right? The house is surrounded by farms and farmland and feels pleasantly remote. It has lovely views of the Green Mountains in Vermont, across the lake. The home is 3 miles from downtown Essex, NY, a town on the National Register of Historic Places. Essex is on Lake Champlain and offers lakeside restaurants, marina, the Essex/Charlotte ferry to VT and the quaint homes and shops that look much as they probably did over 100 years ago. There is an attached barn that has been turned into an amazing apartment and this is where I stay when people are staying in the main house. Guest access The guests rent the 4-bedroom main home. The attached barn, in the back of the house is where owner resides but can be rented as well, in approved circumstances. Other things to note There are great views of Vermont's Green Mountains to the east to enjoy from the ADK chairs on the screened porch. I now have 4 amazing Norwegian Fjord horses out in the giant dairy barn across the street who love visits from guests! See the house manual for tips on restaurants and shopping, cool stuff to do. Dogs are welcome! We are happy to welcome one dog during your stay. A $150 pet fee per stay applies. Please let us know if you’re bringing a dog when you book. While we are pet-friendly, we ask that pets are well-behaved and not left unattended for long periods.
