Description

Welcome to Sheardrum a cosy yet spacious self-catering cottage in the courtyard of our smallholding. Sheardrum is the best of both worlds; surrounded by rolling farmland and hills it is quiet and peaceful, seems remote but is less than an hour away from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and Perth. We have 25 acres of wildlife-friendly land, new woodland and riverside - lots of places to explore. Views of the Ochil Hills and countryside are fabulous. Children and well-behaved pets are welcome. The space Once a bothy (temporary dwelling for farm workers) alongside an old cow shed, the space has been converted into a spacious well- equipped cottage with a wood burning stove. It has two bedrooms, one is a double room and the other can accommodate two people in a king size or two single beds. There is a sofa bed in the sitting room. The cottage has a wet shower room and is all on one level inside (there is a step up at the front door). French doors in the sitting room open onto a gravel and slab private patio garden that is a bit of a sun trap. The whole building is environmentally friendly with wood fibre insulation, lime plaster and eco-paint. Guest access Sheardrum is a mile off the public road, up a farm track that is rough in places but cars get up and down OK as long as drivers go nice and steady. Guests can park in the farmyard in front of the cottage. There are sheep and cattle here and we are surrounded by other farms. You are welcome to explore the area - the views from the top of Saline Hill are great but dogs must always be kept under control and on a lead near sheep. At lambing time dogs should be kept out of any fields with lambs; cows with calves should be avoided. Other things to note Guest should note that the farm track to Sheardrum requires drivers to go slowly, particularly over the drainage bumps. There are basic non-perishable foodstuffs supplied, but the nearest shops are in Saline village (2 miles), Oakley (4 miles), Dollar (7 miles) and Dunfermline (8 miles).
