The house is an 1838 barn with old beams and rafters, and modern finishes of hemlock, red oak, and western red cedar throughout. Cupcake Cottage is a rare find: historic, intimate, comfortable and well equipped. The land is private and the mood serene and calm, while still close to area attractions (hiking, skiing, canoeing, golf, farmers market), the nearby towns of Roxbury and Margaretville, and the rolling farmland of Delaware County. The house was built as a barn in 1838 by the Scudder family, who were early settlers to the area and who farmed the entire hillside and valley. There is an open loft-like bedroom upstairs, and the ground level features old beams, a wood stove, and an open floor plan with living, dining, and kitchen flowing together seamlessly. The house is surrounded by lush gardens, woods, a meadow, and far off views. The Summer 2024 vegetable garden was better than ever! Guests were welcomed to harvest from the nine new raised beds full of greens, herbs, vegetables, and heirloom tomatoes galore. The open kitchen is a chef's dream, with stools for guests to sit at the center island and every tool imaginable close at hand. There is a well stocked pantry of basic supplies. A forest of maple, ash, black cherry, and evergreen trees surround the upper gardens and the lower meadow features a fire pit, and apple, peach, pear and cherry fruit trees. Firewood is supplied for the wood stove. There is a hammock strung under an old apple tree, and both a charcoal and gas grill. There is fast wifi, an Apple tv, and a portable Bose music system, in addition to an extensive vinyl record collection that continues to grow . The linens are fresh and high quality, and there is a washer and dryer. The bathroom is stocked to meet most needs, with great water pressure in the deep claw foot tub shower. Other things to note Dogs are welcomed, but this is not an ideal home for highly energetic and active pets, or multiples. The new floors are beginning to show their age, but will scratch easily. There are dog bowls available in the kitchen, and old towels and sheets for covering furniture.
