You can reach Centovalli and Valle Maggia in 30 minutes, and Lavertezzo in Val Vigezzo in 1 hour. There is a restaurant only 300 meters from the house. The space The house has 2 romantic fireplaces, charcoal grills, 2 modern kitchens, 2 bathrooms, free parking is only 50 meters away on the road. The two apartments can also be booked separately. The upstairs apartment has one bedroom with a double bed (1.4 meters), a living room with a fireplace, a fully stocked kitchen including dishwasher, 2 work desks, a 1.2 meter bed, and a single sofabed. The internal stairs are steep and not ideal for children under 4. The downstairs apartment has one bedroom with two single beds, a living room with a fireplace, and a fully stocked kitchen including dishwasher. We can provide a baby bed and/or high chair upon request at the time of booking. Note that heating is a combination of floor heating (to 15 degrees), wood burning stove (to reach 21 degrees) and space heaters (master bedroom and for fast heating while waiting for wood stove to heat up). We also have plenty of hot water bottles for warm nights. Guests unfamiliar with heating by firewood should book elsewhere. Guest access Guests have access to the entire house, garden, and basement with washer and dryer. Other things to note The road up to Crana is very windy and you should plan on driving slowly. Coffee options: Moka/Bialetti Italian espresso maker. Please protect our beautiful river by refraining from sharing photos and videos of it online, we do not want to be inundated with tourists. Note that we do not accept loud groups or parties. Firewood: The firewood on the balcony and under the mailbox needs to dry until 2024. If you burn it you will see it is too humid. Please use only the firewood directly under the stairs, which looks more recently cut but is dryer. Heating: This is a very old house and the heating is more complicated than just turning on a thermostat, so please follow these instructions carefully when heating is required: During colder months, we preheat the living room/kitchen with electrical floor heating at 15 degrees. Please do not adjust this thermostat. The bedrooms and bathroom have electrical heaters that you may use as needed. Please turn off these heaters when they are not needed. The living room has an additional heater with ventilator to quickly heat the air beyond 15 degrees. This heater is intended for use while the wood-burning stove heats up. The main way of heating the house is via the wood-burning stove. Make sure you use the correct wood (see above). You’ll find kindling and fire starters next to the open fireplace. Start a small fire inside the small upper lefthand chamber, making sure to open the air vents on the little doors. You must also ensure the vent on the stovepipe (big black tube leading upwards) is turned to the vertical position. If the house gets smokey, check that the vents are open, and if they are, light some paper in the combustion chamber to heat up the cold air blocking the chimney before starting the fire again. Once the small fire has started, you may close one of the lower vents. add one big log approximately every hour. Use the kindling only to start the fire, not to keep it burning. If the fire dies down, open the vents. Leaving both vents open the entire time will burn too much wood. Within 3 hours of starting a fire in the woodstove, the radiators in the bathroom and upstairs room will start to warm up. The large chamber on the right is an over, please don’t start a fire in there. The lower left hand chamber is where the ashes collect. You must empty the ashes daily into the metal container by the front door. Once the ashes are cool (this takes 24 hours), please put them in the green trash bag that we provide you. Placing uncooled ashes in the garbage risks starting a fire. The open fireplace is for effect only! If you attempt to heat the house with the open fireplace you will quickly burn up all the wood. Therefore you should use it only for romantic evenings :) Remember to open the flue before starting the fire, by pushing up the hanging metal bar and locking it into place, otherwise you will fill the house with smoke. Next to the fireplace is a small foam extinguisher. Note that once the fire has stopped burning, the flue needs to remain open so that the gasses can escape, otherwise you risk carbon monoxide poisoning. Leaving the flue open all night causes heat to escape, which is another reason not to heat with the open fireplace. Compost: There is a circular compost holder at the far end of the garden. The basement has a washer and dryer that you may use. You may recycle CLEAN plastic of any sort in the transparent plastic bag next to the dryer in the basement. If it’s full, please start a new bag. Unclean plastic will attract animals. Registration Details NL-00000920
