The Red House, a 600 square foot cabin, is located on the campus of world famous Penland School of Craft. All parts of the campus are literally a few minutes walk from the cabin. Evening slide programs are open to the public even if you are not an enrolled student, as are the Coffee House and the Supply Store. The surrounding area is filled with artists in every medium, as well as numerous small towns, restaurants, and other amenities. Every part of the Penland campus is walkable from the Red House. Restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities are located in Spruce Pine and other nearby towns. It's only an hour's drive to the popular city of Asheville, and Boone is also an hour away. The nearby town of Spruce Pine has many amenities, including a laundromat, several restaurants, a brewery, a supermarket, a WalMart Superstore, and the Toe River Arts headquarters. Guests are likely to see deer, squirrels, chipmunks, groundhogs, possums, and other small animals. The surrounding area is known for abundant wildflowers (in season), and there are hiking trails on the adjacent Penland campus.
