Description

Private, rustic, waterfront retreat at the bottom of a winding trail, set amongst the trees on the Salish Sea. This cozy and ultra comfortable beach house is within day-trip distance to all Vancouver Island has to offer. It provides an intimate, restful, and well-furnished retreat for two people in the loft overlooking the beach, with an additional sofa-bed in the common space. Wildlife, stars, and unbelievable moonrises and sunrises! The space This 400 sq ft beach house is Westcoast by nature – casual and comfortable, in a coastal rainforest. Located within the village of Bowser, this beach house is a hidden gem for all seasons. The classic timber cabin faces directly onto the ocean and very private Buccaneer Beach, and is situated within a private meadow. The cabin is fully furnished with a king-sized bed in the loft, and a cozy comforter and linens. The kitchen is fully furnished, and comes complete with gas range, microwave, fridge/freezer, and small appliances (including Breville coffee maker with grinder). We provide some basic spices and cooking oil, and coffee and tea. The bathroom has a full-sized soaker tub with shower, small vanity (with Epsom salts and hair dryer), and composting flush toilet. Other amenities include free parking, outside deck, high speed wireless internet, board games, books, a high quality AM/FM radio with aux cable, outdoor barbeque, and wood burning stove inside the cabin. While there is an outdoor fire pit on the property, small outdoor fires are better suited to the beach below the high tide, wildfire rating permitting. Wood is provided for use in the indoor wood burning stove only. Situated perfectly in central Vancouver Island, you can access it all: surfing in Tofino, skiing on Mount Washington, live music and mountain biking in Cumberland, caves in Horne Lake, world-famous oysters in Fanny Bay, laid-back lifestyle and white sand beaches on Hornby and Denman Islands, craft breweries and slow food in Courtenay, Rathrevor Beach and spas in Parksville, picturesque seaside village shopping and restaurants in Qualicum Beach, majestic Cathedral Grove, world-class fishing in Port Alberni and Campbell River, shopping and major amenities in Nanaimo, and countless hiking and water sports throughout the Island. There is an abundance of wildlife viewing, right from the privacy of your own deck: sea lions, orcas, grey and humpback whales, bald eagles, blue herons, and myriad other bird species. The winter herring run and storm watching are not to be missed! This unique property is quiet, private, and restful, perfect for a retreat, romantic getaway, or contemplative holiday without TVs or interruptions. It is not suitable for parties, large groups, or loud events. Though the cabin can accommodate a family of four (assuming two small children), it is best enjoyed by one to two adults. Guests with children please inquire for availability and please see notes below regarding maximum number of guests. While we live on the property, our home is on the high bank and the cabin is on the low bank waterfront, down a (steep) winding, trees trail. This provides guests privacy without isolation; we cannot see the cabin from our house or vice versa. We get asked a lot, “can we drink the water?” The answer is “yes”! In Bowser, our water is clean and delicious straight from the tap. Guest access The day before your check-in, we will text or message you the access code for the front door of the cabin. Other things to note We aim to be gentle on nature: the cabin has a composting flush toilet, and we recycle as much paper, plastic, and glass as we can. Please note that due to the steep trail access (a descent of about 20 metres down a maintained and railed trail), the beach house is unfortunately not suitable for guests with mobility issues. As well, we love children (we have two young boys of our own) and look forward to welcoming young families (please see below note). However, please note that the loft bedroom is quite high and the wood burning fire place does not have a child guard. We provide wood to burn in the wood stove inside the cabin. We have a level 1 and level 2 (Chargepoint) EV charger, please contact us for details. We have a two-day minimum and charge a cleaning fee of $75 per visit. The beach house can accommodate a maximum of 2 adults. Up to 2 children 12 years and under can stay for free. Unfortunately, no pets are allowed as we encourage wildlife to access our yard, including deer, rabbits, raccoons, and lots of others. While there is a sauna on site, it is not for guests’ use.
