The Armadillo is a haven of peace and tranquility set in one of the most creative and lovingly maintained private gardens in Knysna. Pristine pool & decks: Positioned to make the most of every minute of the African sun, our pool & sun decks are the perfect place to soak up some rays in an oasis-like setting. The water is kept clean & crystal clear through our eco-friendly chlorinator that turns sea salt into natural chlorine. Bathing is a pleasure in a pool free from the odour of harsh chemicals & additives. Lapa & braai: Guests can ‘go native’ & enjoy a true taste of South Africa in our thatched lapa (shelter), complete with Weber braai & picnic table. Braai tongs, cutlery, china & glassware, etc. are provided in each studio. Gather round the fire: Next to the lapa & braai area is one of our most unique garden features - an outdoor fireplace, complete with seating & wood storage area. Here guests can gather round the flickering flames after a braai or a night out to enjoy a drink & good conversation under the stars. Other things to note Accommodation is cleaned daily at least and towels and sheets are changed weekly. Laundry: Themba, our wonderful cleaning lady, is usually on-site from Monday to Saturday from mornings till mid afternoon. If you would like your personal clothes washed, she can do it for you (ZAR 70 per load) if her workload is not too high. Alternatively, there are also several laundrys in town (ZAR90 to ZAR140 per load). Please speak to Themba if you are interested in this service, and let us know on the end of your stay how many loads she made for you. Please don`t pay cash to anyone. We will claim the amount via Airbnb. Cleaning: In February 2018, we started a new service to our guests: we offer now a daily small room passage (make beds, check if everything is OK, small cleanings if necessary). This additional service is provided free of charge. The only small limitation is that on days with a lot of work, this additional service may not be possible for once. If you do not want Themba to do this passage in your studio, you are kindly asked to tell Themba this in person in the morning or leave a brief note at the studio entrance door. We hope that with this new service we will make your stay with us even more comfortable. Our Eco-friendly environment: Set in one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of the Cape, we care as much about the environment as we do our guests. The effects of climate change in the Garden Route, especially in the form of reduced rainfall, have made us acutely aware of our environmental responsibilities. To reduce our electricity consumption and carbon footprint, we have installed solar panels to heat all our water. We have installed a 5,000 litre storage tank to collect rainwater from the roof, thus eliminating the need to use mains water for garden and pool maintenance. To cut back on water usage we have planted our garden with drought-tolerant indigenous plants and trees that attract a wide variety of birds.
