The space We have redesigned downstairs and upstairs floors, with a new upstairs bathroom, renovated bedrooms and a spacious living room opening onto a porch with views and sitting area. La Polaina sits up on a hill with commanding views of the Ria de Noia in the Rias Baixas region of Galicia. Tucked away above a tiny medieval village, you may run into an occasional group of free ranging chickens, sheep, goats or horses on the country roads. There are 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The two upstairs bedrooms both have ocean views and comfortable queen sized beds. The downstairs bedroom has an en suite bathroom, it's own entrance, and views of the north and west. There is a bathroom with spacious shower upstairs, and a smaller bathroom with a shower on the ground floor. The living room overlooks the garden and opens onto a large porch with ocean and mountain views. Downstairs is an open design kitchen and dining area with gas stovetop and a wood burning stove/oven that also heats the house on chilly nights and during winter months. Outside is a spacious stone patio with dining table, bbq grill and chill out area. The terraced gardens have benches for reading and contemplating the views. The top of the garden has a flat area ideal for yoga or just to sit and be wowed by the view. Casa La Polaina is a magical nature retreat for couples, families or small groups of friends and a perfect resting spot for camino pilgrims. Pets are welcome. This lovingly restored stone cottage is a piece of paradise for those who enjoy simple pleasures, and who want to disconnect from modern and to restore mind and spirit. Modern amenities are basic; there is decent cell phone coverage and WiFi, but no on TV. There is a laundromat in town and Rosa is happy to do laundry loads for a small fee. Casa La Polaina is not for everyone, but for those who yearn to get away from it all, this is a little piece of paradise. (Don't take my word for it - read the reviews! This place is magical!) As a booking note: in the high season from June 15 - September 15, Casa La Polaina has a 5 night minimum reservation Guest access La Polaina is completely secluded and private in the woods overlooking the ocean just outside the hamlet of Vilar. There is parking on site for 2 cars. No traffic passes on the unpaved road except for occasional cyclists, hikers, horse riders and, very occasionally a forest ranger vehicle. The last 150m of road are unpaved and a bit bumpy but easily passable for most cars as long as you take it slow. Rosa's house is 200m down the road and she is the nicest person you can hope to meet. She is always there to help with anything you need. The road through the village of Vilar is steep, windy and extremely narrow, so I strongly advise that you drive the longer way around to the main road through Baroña and Abuín, on a road with spectacular views, which also passes the closest local grocery store and bar: Café 81, at the curve in the road in Abuin. Porto Do Son is the nearby port town. It's small and charming, with easy to find free parking. There are multiple cafés, bars, restaurants (all with free wifi), as well as a morning fish and vegetable market, various supermarkets, bakeries, shops, and a public library, and two old churches.
