The village is often described as the ’Gateway to the Secret Kingdom’, and offers many facilities including shops, a tea room, pubs renowned for serving delicious food, and an impressive golf driving range. The picture-postcard coastal village of Bamburgh, dominated by its majestic fortress and golden sandy beach, is a mere 6 miles east. The small and friendly market town of Wooler sits at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, 12 miles west, which is a popular destination for cycling, hang-gliding, golf, horse riding and walking. The challenging route of St Cuthbert’s Way passes close by. Chatton Trout Fisheries is close by and invites amateur anglers to fish without a rod licence on a picturesque 4-acre lake. Although Melandra is quietly situated, the A1 is less than a mile away, giving easy access to the elegant Georgian town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which straddles the salmon rich River Tweed to the north, and the market town of Alnwick, with its dramatic castle, to the south. Both offer a wide array of amenities and are equidistant at 15 miles. Alnwick Garden is very popular and makes a great day out. See the Grand Cascade waterfall and then enjoy a meal in the restaurant within the largest treehouse in Europe.
