Description
Small farmhouse on 6 acres, built 1890's & added on 3 times. Located In Shenandoah Valley, 20 min. from Staunton VA. No visible neighbors, almost no traffic. Ideal for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city and leaving technology behind. The space The room is small and cozy as were farm houses in 1890's. The idea of the farm is to be green, self sufficient and chemical free. Room is furnished with up-cycled furniture, barn wood & pallet wall art, antiques and vintage items along with modern pieces. The bed is a double bed which is the size beds would have been when the house was built. But spend time on the porch or outdoors! No TV, WiFi , air conditioning. Just peace and quiet. Guests will be served a country breakfast: range fed meat/eggs, chemical free and organic when possible. Guest access You may access the living room, dining room, WC. You may also put items in refrigerator. In addition, you are welcome to wonder around the farm keeping in mind that it is a working farm. You will see deer and abundant birds and if you are lucky, a fox, groundhog, raccoon, possum, turkey, snakes and I once saw a bear in the distance. During your stay You are welcome to help garden if you like during the season or pull weeds. Someone should be available to help you with anything you need on the farm or in town. If you need a ride from the train station, I will pick you up. If you'd like a home cooked meal out of the garden, let me know. If you need ideas of places to visit or to borrow movies or books or tea and a conversation on Shakespeare, I'll try to accommodate. Other things to note The farm is 20 minutes or less door to door to the BlackFriar Shakespeare Theatre in downtown Staunton traveling country roads at 40 miles per hour. The pace is leisurely and the point is to enjoy the country, but you are close to wonderful restaurants, music and entertainment. Of other note, I adopted two rescue dogs to help guard the house. They will bark to help keep the coyotes, deer, bear, raccoons, possums, away from the house and barn. As mentioned before, the bed in the room is a double bed and not a queen. Old farm houses were generally two small rooms upstairs and two rooms downstairs. Before additions were added to the house, the kitchen and outhouse were outside. The ceilings upstairs and going up the stairs are low. That being said, there is a lot of charm in old farm houses. Nothing cookie cutter since most people built their own homes. Being Hawaiian, there is a no shoe policy in the house. However, you can wear slippers or indoor shoes.
