Step back in time in this historic, seven bedroom farmhouse on 2 acres located in Granville, NY a mile from Vermont for a rural adventure. Close to Vermont skiing, Lake George, Manchester shopping or just a quiet retreat in the midst of stunning natural beauty. The space My great, great grandfather was an architect and builder and designed and built the house ~1860. However, it was only recently owned by my family. The house was renovated in 2018, but there are some original touches throughout the house including some of the doors and flooring. The back part of the sprawling house was once the stables and the very back closet was the original “privy”. While the main rooms allow for lots of group socializing, there are plenty of nooks and crannies to allow for solitary getaway time. The rocking chairs on the wrap around porch, cafe seating on the side deck, and fire pit allows guests to enjoy the outdoors. We provide corn hole and croquet, but feel free to bring your own lawn games in the summer. The sizable pool is generally open Memorial Day through Labor Day. It is great for laps and lounging in the various floats provided, cannonballs off the diving board are encouraged! The Delaware & Hudson (D&H) rail trail runs right behind the house providing over twenty miles of gorgeous wooded trails for cross country skiing, hiking, biking or strolling. Take a right to travel past an historic cemetery; crossing the Mettowee River brings you into town. If you continue past the old grainary, you’ll be surrounded by thick woods until and over the Vermont border. The house is ~2 miles to Hick's Apple Orchard, even closer to the Slate Town Brewery, Gold Trout, and a short drive to the Dancing Ewe Farm for truly farm to table dining on Saturdays and Sundays. Tours of a local slate quarry and a boat rental on nearby Lake St Catherine are generally available. Many guests just enjoy each other and the house—with over 5,000 square feet you'll have plenty of space to stretch out! Guest access All areas are open to guests except the locked owners closet. Other things to note There is an apartment above the detached garage that a tenant lives in. He is very friendly, and does not use the pool or grounds when renters are staying in the house.
