Retreat to this 2 bedroom bungalow with modern amenities & century old charm, located in a semi-secluded neighborhood with easy driving access to the zoo, downtown Omaha, Bellevue & Offutt. Walk 2 blks to Fontenelle Forest. The sunroom has a fold down sofa, desk, & original French doors for an additional working/living/sleeping area. Relax on the back deck & admire the sunset, hang out inside & prepare a meal in the fantastic kitchen, or chill on the leather couch with the 55” smart TV w cable. Beautiful 1914 bungalow filled with original woodwork and details, with many modern updates. 2 Bedrooms (1 queen bed, 2 twin beds) and 1 full bathroom with deep tub and modern showerhead. Besides the leather couch and vintage velvet chairs in the living room, there are additional seating options in the sunroom (the fold down sofa can sleep 1 person short term), and with closing original beveled glass & wood French doors for semi-privacy—it’s great for a dedicated office work area at the desk or a playroom for the kids. The dining room has a table can seat 6 and butcher block bar/workspace with 3 stools. Hang out outside on the relaxing covered front porch or have a sunset drink on the back deck. Fabulous remodeled kitchen with powerful gas stove. Many vintage decorative touches, including seed bags (1957 era) from my grandparent’s farm 🧡 High efficiency HVAC and water heater, new in 2017. With just over 1000 sq ft interior space all on one level (there are several steps to enter/exit property), it's a perfect solo/couples retreat, co-workers lodging, or home base for a family of up to five. The Local Vibe online publication has named this 1 of the 6 coolest Airbnb’s in Omaha! The living room has cable including HBO and a 55” smart TV. You are welcome to stream or connect to any services you have accounts for also. There is not a clothes washer or dryer in the house. There is a laundromat 1 mile away & there is a laundry service in Bellevue that will pick up & drop off your laundry to the house. NO PARTIES, PETS, OR SMOKING/VAPING INSIDE ALLOWED. You'll have the entire main level, front porch, back deck, and front 1/2 of driveway to yourselves. House is nestled in a semi-secluded neighborhood on a quiet side street, just off a main road. Being two long blocks (~1/4 mile) from the main entrance to Fontenelle Forest & Tree Rush Adventures means there are frequently yard guests such as deer, many bird varieties including turkeys, as well as rabbits, fox, coyote, etc. There's a gravel driveway for off street parking, which can hold 2 vehicles in the front portion. You can use the front yard, but the side/backyard is steeper and rougher terrain, currently with slabs of wood stacked and drying, and not suitable for children or running around. I'm an artist and sometimes use the detached garage, back part of driveway, and basement (separate entrance) for projects/storage, but generally will not be on property while you are there, unless you request me to be, or to maintain the yard, garden (which you are welcome to any food growing in the summer), or outdoor projects, etc. You will be the only guests at the house. Several folks in the neighborhood have chickens and bees, and we don't generally use chemicals in our yard that could harm the bees/pollinators. Check yourself in with the keyless coded entry and message me you've arrived in the house, I generally won't be around in person unless desired, or to maintain yard/art projects. I'm available via text/phone/messaging before, during, and after your stay, please don't hesitate to contact me if you need something, or if there are any issues at the house. I'm usually close by or have someone who can be. This house is in a fabulous neighborhood-it's on a quiet side street near the forest, so it feels secluded, yet is minutes away from Hwy 75 and I-80, and it is easy to get around by car. It is just south of South Omaha and on the northern edge of Bellevue-less than 4 miles north of Old Towne. The area is teeming with wildlife-birds singing all the time and you never know when some deer or turkeys will stroll through. It's nice to walk/drive through the neighborhood and see the eclectic styles of houses and yards/gardens—you may catch a glimpse of some backyard chickens or other animals on acreages. It's a relatively quiet (except for the birds singing and trains) family filled neighborhood, so if you're wanting to be loud or party, this is not a good option for you. It gets pretty dark along the street after the sun goes down (there's front porch and back deck lights on the house). It's easy to unwind and relax here, listen to the birds, smell the flowers, read or write. Walk to Fontenelle Forest, go down the hill to a Scooters coffee drive-through, drive an easy 8-10 minutes up 13th street to the zoo, 10 minutes to Offutt or Old Town Bellevue, 12-15 minutes to Old Market/downtown Omaha/CHI Health Event Center/Schwab Ballpark/UN Med Center or Council Bluffs. Stella's Burgers is 5 minutes away, as is a Bakers grocery store. ~5 minutes to banks, chain/big box stores/restaurants/Starbucks on Cornhusker. 5-10 minutes to South Omaha and El Museo Latino. Personal vehicle is recommended. House is towards the top of a hill-and on a side street that doesn't get snow plowed right away, so keep that in mind when booking or when deciding on vehicle type during inclement weather. I get in and out of neighborhood fine in an all-wheel vehicle, whether street is plowed or not. Lyft and Uber are available as well. The zoo is 4 miles north and traveling from the house you'll avoid the interstate zoo traffic common on weekends, by heading north on 13th street instead. By car, you're just a few minutes from getting on Hwy 75, which leads to I-80 and I-29, to get to other parts of the metropolitan area. The driveway is mostly gravel, but is relatively motorcycle friendly, and easily can fit two cars. There are lots of hills in this residential neighborhood near the Missouri River—cyclists in excellent shape will love the challenge. There are miles of hiking trails to explore in Fontenelle Forest. There are train tracks down the hill about 1/2 a mile, with active trains that whistle while going through town. If you are a light sleeper, I'd recommend bringing earplugs, in case they roll by at night. Guests with children are welcomed, but depending on their ages, parents need to be aware of and be ok with the following potential hazards before booking with 0-12 year old guests: There are window blinds WITH CORDS in every room except the kitchen, bathroom, & twin bedroom; the flat panel TVs are not mounted & could be tipped over. Outdoor live continuous recording security video cameras located on front and back exterior of house are on to monitor the property grounds (none inside of course). The exterior has been re-sided in 2023, but some of the trim is still a farmhouse shabby chic look :) Depending on the weather, we may be around to work on the exterior’s "vintage patina" on a nice day. As noted elsewhere, I usually have remnants of some art and/or garden projects in the backyard and use the garage and basement, so those areas are off limits unless there's something interesting to see, in which case I would be happy to give you a guided tour. Longer stays: for stays over 2 weeks, we include a light cleaning of the house & linen change (~every 2 weeks & you are still expected to keep the house tidy and food/spills picked up on a day-to-day basis). We will coordinate a time that works for you to be out of the house for the duration. Feel free to message prior to booking if you have questions or want more details.
