Old Wharf Cottage - Riverside Living with Swimming Pool
The Old Wharf Cottage is a beautiful, thatched, riverside retreat, nestled between two islands on the picturesque banks of the River Thames. The house is situated minutes from the historic towns of Windsor + Eton and is a great central base to explore famous locations and attractions such as Runnymede where the Magna Carta was signed, Virginia Water, Windsor and Ascot Racecourses, Thorpe Park, Legoland, Kew and Savill Gardens and Hampton Court Palace, with Central London also just 23 miles away. Enjoy dining al fresco by the riverside on two patios, or in the open plan kitchen/diner. The Old Wharf Cottage was originally built in 1903 in the Edwardian Arts and Crafts style and has been lovingly maintained and constantly upgraded to a high standard. There are riverside lawns stretching down to a seating and dining area with wood fired Pizza oven and BBQ by the rivers edge. You enter the house through the main entrance hall which leads upstairs via the oak staircase. Off the first-floor landing, there is a substantial queen-size ensuite bedroom, with riverside views and balcony. There is one large ensuite twin bedroom, as well as good sized twin and double bedrooms with access to a large family bathroom. All three bathrooms are state of the art, two with walk in showers, hand basin and W.C. and the third, the family bathroom, has a large bath, walk in shower, W.C. and hand basin. One highlight of the house is the third double bedroom, which is attached to the side of the house on brick arched supports and is constructed out of 19th century oak beams from one of the last pioneering ships bound for Australia and contains wooden carvings and unique features from this era. Please note this last room is a smaller double room accessed off the main staircase. The ground floor consists of the entrance hall with separate W.C. and an open plan, fully equipped kitchen/diner with both a gas fired Aga and an electric cooker, perfect for entertaining or creating family meals. There are two lounges leading off the dining room, one a river lounge overlooking the Thames with double doors leading via a patio dining area, across the lawn. The second lounge is equipped with electric coal-effect fire, flatscreen smart TV with Netflix, a grand piano and chess set. There are multiple board games available, as well as an outdoor ping pong table and croquet set. There is also a multipurpose play area for younger children and fencing for both the pool and river. The 10m by 5m pool is heated in the summer months and the pool side and decking areas are great places for relaxing or enjoying the hot tub, right by the Royal River Thames. Please ask about the availability of the pool and hot tub heating outside of the summer months The riverside views and gardens are a real highlight of this property. Positioned between two small islands, this is a beauty spot with fantastic opportunities for bird watching or just absorbing the river boating life and gentle atmosphere floating past. Elegant swans, ducks, kingfishers, herons and grebes are daily visitors. We can help organise boat trips to explore the Thames. Ample private parking for multiple cars to the rear of the property which is bordered by picturesque cottage gardens. We have good overground rail links close by, from both Slough and Wraysbury stations to central London, taking approximately 15 and 40 minutes to Paddington and Waterloo. Hatton Cross, on the Piccadilly underground line, provides access to all central London’s attractions, including Oxford Street and the West End Theatres, Soho, the Natural History and Science Museums, the Houses of Parliament, Madame Tussauds and many more. There are good air links from Heathrow (20 mins) and Gatwick and Luton (45 mins) Windsor is only 10 minutes away by car or rail, with attractions such as Windsor Castle and the Great Park, Eton College, River Thames day cruises, as well as a host of restaurants and pubs and covered shopping. Also close by at Runnymede, on the other side of the River Thames, are the JFK, US Bar association and RAF memorials. Wraysbury village’s local pub 'The George' is within a short walking distance and is a highly rated cozy eatery, perfect for a Sunday roast with inside and outside dining and bars. Wraysbury village has a pharmacy, coffee shop, co-op, hardware store, cricket and football pitches, children’s play area, a Norman church and a second pub, the Perseverance, also serving good pub food. The house is centrally heated, double glazed throughout, fully furnished and well equipped.
