Relax and recharge at Casa Marmelo, a luxurious four bedroom five bathroom villa with private heated pool overlooking the stunning Douro River in Northern Portugal. Sleep in one of the four beautifully appointed bedrooms - each with super-king bed and en-suite bathroom, relax in the spacious lounge with wood-burning fireplace, cook in the sleek, modern kitchen, have a glass of wine on the beautiful terrace or swim in the 14m pool with 360 degree views over the Douro River. The space Set in the lush, green land of the Douro region, Casa Marmelo was built in 2018 by a fantastic Portuguese team made up of a project manager, builder and architect. The original ruin was rebuilt and now houses the kitchen and dining area upstairs and a bedroom, bathroom, games room with pool table, and kitchenette/laundry downstairs. A modern wing, attached to the ruin by the entrance hall, boasts the living room and a further three bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms. A balcony, with views over the Douro river, links all of the rooms in the modern wing. The villa is beautifully furnished throughout. Outside, the grounds are divided into terraces typical of the Douro region, with areas for children to play and adults to relax and take in the spectacular views of the river and surrounding countryside. The 14 metre heated pool sits in a generous granite decking area with tables, seating and sun loungers. Guest access The villa has parking for 5-6 cars on-site. There are plenty of walking routes a stones throw away that take you off the beaten track into the wooded hills above the house, with hidden ruins, waterfalls and the medieval Rota Romanica route. to explore. Water-sports are available on the Douro river. Other things to note In low season (October 1 to 30 April), there is a €350 surcharge to heat the pool. We also will only heat the pool during the winter months if the temperature is 20C or higher.
