The cozy Farmhand Cabin overlooking the stream is secluded among the willow trees in the lower pasture of a working livestock farm. Walk to the dairy barn, farmhouse and farm kitchen. Horses, goats, sheep, cattle and chickens wake you to an incredible farm and food experience. Enjoy farm programs and workshops. Milk a goat, bottle feed a lamb, cuddle a chick, collect eggs. Eat farm food expertly prepared using the farm's meat, dairy & produce. Experience, Immerse. Eat. Relax. If you need a break from the chaos and want to sit on the porch of a cabin and listen to the murmur of the stream and the bleating and lowing of sheep and goats, if you want to splash in spring-fed streams and ponds and stroll through wildflower meadows, if you want to be where life is simple and every breath is a reminder that there is an abundance of beauty and magic in the world, then the Farmhand cabin is for YOU. Guests often wake up to the horses grazing outside the cabin waiting for treats and pets. Horse treats and grooming supplies are in the cabin. There are many dogs, cats, horses and livestock on the farm. If you are allergic or uncomfortable with animals, the Farmhand Cabin is NOT for you. The Farmhand Cabin is located on a working livestock farm a short distance from the farmhouse overlooking Kortright Creek. Access to the cabin is via a deep rutted tractor path - about 350 yards from the farmhouse road. The one-room cabin is 10 feet by 11 feet and accommodates up to two adults and two small children. There are two wide single beds and floor space for children. To accommodate additional persons (up to two and no more), bring your own tent and bedding. The Cabin has electricity and is equipped with an electric fan/heater. It includes a mini fridge, hot plate, toaster oven, coffee maker, electric kettle and fire pit with grill for cooking. Bring your own wood for the fire pit and charcoal for cooking. Includes dishes, flatware and cooking pots/pans and utensils. Bring your own coffee, tea and cooking oil or butter if you plan to prepare meals. The outdoor wash sink with hot running water is attached to the cabin. The outdoor compost toilet and hot water propane shower are located about 80 feet from the back of the cabin. Cars with low ground clearance should park at the farmhouse and walk to the cabin or if your car has high ground clearance you may drive the tractor path to the cabin. Reminder: NO PETS and NO WIFI. WIFI access is available at the Farmhouse. We hate to disappoint. If you would like to participate in farm programs or have meals delivered to the Farmhand Cabin, please inquire about availability BEFORE you book. Wander the farm and talk to the animals. Splash in the stream, wander the wildflower and wooded pastures, bike the country roads. Swimming, fishing, hiking and picnicking at Hartwick College's Pine Lake environmental center - 5 minute car ride from farm. There are several state parks nearby for swimming and hiking. Participate in Tour and Chores. Enjoy a guided tour of the farm and lend a hand with farm chores (1 to 1½ hours) for $75 per group (up to four persons). Farm chores, depending on the season, may include collecting eggs, bottle feeding kid goats or lambs, feeding and watering chickens, rabbits and pigs, moving the sheep or dairy goats with the border collies or milking a goat. Farmer for a Day is a half day adventure for $250 for four persons and includes a farm lunch. Farmer for a Day activities are tailored to the ages and interests of your family or group (not recommended for children under 6 years old). Field and Kitchen workshops require a minimum of five persons or the fee equivalent to five persons. Workshops, except Tabletop Tour of New York Wine and Cheese, are customized for families with children (not recommended for children under 6 years old) or designed for adults only. Private farm tours are available by appointment on Sunday at 11 am or 1 pm. Other times on Sunday or during the week may be available upon request. Fable=farm+table, our on-farm restaurant is open only for private events. Private meals, including lunch, are delivered to the cabin for you to enjoy on the porch or picnic table, or if available, served in the farmhouse dining space. Five course dinners are $75 person and three course dinners are $55. Box lunches are $22 person. The Grazing Board, a charcuterie board of our farm-made sausages, pâté and local cheese, dips, fresh vegetables, nuts, and fruit is $25 person. The breakfast bag is $12 per person and includes farm made muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs or quiche, juice, milk and coffee/tea. Participation in farm programs and meals must be reserved in advance of your arrival. Farm tours and meals are private unless you choose to dine in the farmhouse dining space where you may be joined by Farmhouse Suite guests. Due to our schedules, we cannot offer Farm programs or workshops or box lunches on Saturdays mid May to the end of November. A farmer or farmhand is always available to answer your questions, make recommendations for off-farm activities and to make your arm experience safe and fun. The farm is one of two working farms on a quiet country road. Wheels (bike or car) or horse needed to get around. We cannot host pets or service animals. We love dogs but our livestock guardian dogs do not. Our livestock guardian dogs' job is to protect their livestock from predators. They would regard your dog as a predator. Therefore, your pet is not safe on our farm. Unplug. Limited cell service. There is Wi-Fi in the farmhouse so if you need to access the internet, we will give you the password and you can pick it up near the farmhouse. If you are coming from Albany or Interstate 88, some GPS may take you to us via an obscure and hard to drive route especially in the dark. Please ask us for driving directions. From other directions, GPS is accurate. Check in is 3 - 8 pm. In the morning of your expected arrival date, please let us know the approximate time of your arrival and keep us updated as to your arrival status. Please stop at the farmhouse and we will check you into the cabin. We are a small, working farm. Late arrivals are very disruptive. We wake up before sunrise, so we go to bed early. There is a $35 late arrival fee for arrivals after 10pm. If you get delayed in traffic or lost, we would appreciate a call or email to let us know your arrival time We've gotten great press - most recently from Thrillist " 10 Insanely Awesome Farm Activities You can Drive To" ; Bon Appetit's Food Traveler as Top 25 Foods Farms & Flavors Tourism Destination ; NOFA's summer newsletter; and a wonderful blog post from NewYorkCityFamily.
