Description

Beautiful stone cottage in rustic garden setting, located on the forests edge. Experience the abundant bird life, the sound of frogs and see kangaroos. There are bushwalking tracks on the doorstep, and the beautiful Lerderderg River is at the end of the garden path. Explore the historic township and garden enthusiasts will adore the Garden of St Erth Nursery. The cottage is very simple and unrenovated but cosy, well appointed and decorated with an artists eye. The space The cottage is full of character with stone walls, slate floors and decorated in creative way. It is very simple and unrenovated but beautiful to spend time in, cosy in front of the fireplace during winter and cool in summer. The front and back veranda’s are a great place to watch the many birds, or you can soak up some sun on the outdoor table. There is a rambling, sometimes overgrown, rustic garden and the property backs onto the forest with a rocky path that leads directly to the river. You can go for a bushwalk from the door- no need to drive anywhere! There is plenty to explore in the area and it's a short and forested drive to nearby Trentham and Daylesford. It is a total nature escape without the hassle of a big drive - at just 90kms or just over an hour from Melbourne, it is an easy weekend getaway. Good wifi access. BYO firewood. Guest access The cottage is self contained with an off street driveway where you can park your car. I have an attached artist studio that guests cannot access but otherwise the extensive garden and surrounds are yours to enjoy. Other things to note Experience using a fireplace is recommended. In winter the fireplace is the major heat source (it has glass and a fan). BYO firewood. Blackwood is a sub-alpine habitat and can be very cold (not just in winter), so please bring layers of warm clothes and dressing gown, thermals, beanie, wool jumpers, as well as slippers and thick socks for the stone floor. Decent footwear is a good idea for bushwalks and uneven surfaces around the property. The Lerderderg River is reactive to weather conditions and can dry into small pools towards the end of summer. If you are after a swim then Shaws Lake is a couple of minutes drive away (on a dirt road) or you can bushwalk there! The bathroom has an old bathtub with a shower over it but has lovely large hot water system. The bathroom has lots of plants and is very cute despite not being new or renovated (yet). I have dog visitors on occasion. #thestonecottageblackwood Insta
