Description
Smeaton’s Cottage is a perfectly positioned property in the heart of the conservation area of St Ives, and has Bamaluz Beach as it’s back garden! The old harbour master’s house, located on the Grade II listed Smeatons Pier, has breathtaking views across the whole of St Ives Bay. It is arguably the only property in St Ives from where you can see Bamaluz Beach, the Harbour Beach, both Porthminster and Hayle beaches as well as St Godfrey’s Lighthouse, all from the comfort of the sitting room. The space The property is spread over three floors, with the most amazing sea views, which you can see from every room but one. This quirky traditional cottage, that was once an old pilchard press, is in one of the most sought after locations in town. No matter what time of day or year it is, you can see the sun and moon rise, listen to the waves crash onto Bamaluz beach, or watch the boats come in and out of the harbour all from the comfort of Smeaton’s Cottage. Needless to say, you can hop out of your front door to the shops, beaches, restaurants and bars with ease. The Entrance is via stone steps, to the first floor, leading into a sitting room with two sofa’s, Smart TV, Fireplace and window seat with sea views. Stairs lead down to a large family kitchen with dining table, electric cooker, electric oven, dishwasher, a large belfast sink, and Washing Machine, which has sea views and a shower room with a toilet. There is a stable door on this ground floor level, which allows for easy access if you come off the beach and wish to rinse off those sandy toes. Adjacent to the sitting room is a separate toilet with a bath, and a bedroom with single beds and views of Bamaluz beach. This is one of our favourite rooms, as the lapping waves relax you to sleep. On the second floor, with stairs leading from the sitting room, is a bright day room with a window seat, allowing you to look over Smeatons pier, with views out to Hayle and Godfrey Lighthouse. This room has a daybed and armchair to relax in. Next to this is the second bedroom with a double bed, wardrobe, armchair and wonderful sea views overlooking the Harbour and Porthminster beach. Guest access The old fishing village of St Ives was built way before there were cars and thus parking within the town itself takes careful planning. Whilst you can unload outside of Smeatons Cottage easily, by parking at the side of the house, there is no parking with the property. The easiest but most costly option, is to park on Smeaton’s Pier. This is a short stay car park and costs 14 GBP per day from April 1st to 31st October. During the winter, 1st November to 31st of March, it costs 6 per day. There are only 31 spaces, but as it is a short stay car park, then you usually do not have to wait long until there is a space. The Island Car Park, with 129 parking spaces is probably the best choice as it is a few minutes walk away and costs £47 per week. Please note, that we recommend arriving around 10am-11am at this car park, when other holiday makers are vacating other properties. This car park gets full very quickly and sometimes there are cues to get in. The post code is TR26 1SY Barnoon Car Park which is about a 7 minute walk away has 124 spaces, and also costs 47 per week. As with the Island Car par, we also recommend arriving at 10-11am to be guaranteed a space. The post code is TR26 1JF Trenwith Car Park’ (otherwise known as the Leisure car park) has plenty parking space (759 spaces), and also costs 47 per week. However, it is further away and you can either catch the shuttle bus to St Ives town, or you can head to the back left of the car park once parked and walk down the steps into St Ives. This will bring you out next to the Cinema. From here, if you head right down to the Harbour front, Smeatons Cottage is approximately a 10 minute walk from here. The post code is TR26 1DD Other things to note Please note this property has been fully repainted in January (2022) this year. It has a retro and quirky style, with many original features, fixings and furniture and is not a boutique or hotel like cottage. The pricing of the property reflects this. The property has gas central heating and Wifi.
