Description
Shaded in a canopy of macrocarpa trees at the base of Mt Taranaki national park, The Treehouse is a grown-up childhood sanctuary. Built from recycled materials, a repurposed spiral staircase takes you up the multiple levels of The Treehouse to a secluded living space nestled between the trees. Kick back in the canopy, swoop on the swings or shoot down the slide. This self-contained treehouse is powered by renewable energy and is only a short drive to New Plymouth, local beaches and the mountain. The space The Treehouse was awarded Small Home of the Year 2022 by Home Magazine and was a finalist in the Best Unique Stay category on Airbnb NZ. The Treehouse is spread across 4 levels: - Ground-level has a covered area for bikes/E-bikes with a charging point, we have e-bikes you can hire if required - 1st floor is the bathroom. - 2nd level is the kitchen and lounge. - 3rd level is the bedroom. On the wider property (my parents' home and business) there is a lake with kayaks, farm animals, a rowboat, glow worms, gardens, walkways all of which are available for you to explore and use. The property is all powered by off-grid renewable energy (solar & hydro). If you are interested in a quick tour of the power system just ask. Guest access The Treehouse has a private drive with parking. All facilities (outside of the treehouse fenced area) are open for guests to visit. Young children must be supervised at all times as the lake, stream and farms animals are a potential safety hazard. Please also respect the privacy of guests staying in the other buildings The bush walkways can be very slippery when wet, so please walk carefully and do not run. If you need help, do not be shy - just ask. Michael normally hides in his office which is located by the top house and is clearly signed. Other things to note The Treehouse is not suitable for children (unless supervised at all times) or for those with mobility difficulties (Please note the stairs in the listing of the photo). The sofa can be used as a single bed - bookings up to 3 people are possible. Ideally, The Treehouse is suited for two adults sharing the double bed. Situated near the mountain, the weather can change quickly, so plan some activities for wet conditions. The dry period is typically from January to May. If very high winds (cyclone grade) are forecast during your stay, alternative accommodation can be provided to ensure your safety. Building angles and height may cause some guests to feel disorientated. Light filters through the translucent sidewalls - this may cause you to wake up sooner than normal in the summer. Eyeshades are provided if required. The Trees are a natural habitat for wildlife. Although we do our best to keep insects out of the building, if you are uncomfortable with insects this might not be the most comfortable stay for you. As the property is 'off grid' for its electricity please do not bring any portable heaters. There is a wood fire and ample dry firewood for you to use for heating.
