Description

Kick off your shoes, relax in this charming stable conversion Lovely views of the sheep, wildlife and sunsets Log burner Small courtyard + furniture Pleasantly rural but close to picturesque villages and larger towns ie Winchester, Farnham, Odiham. No separate living room but armchairs and wifi TV Great kitchenette, *microwave only *, fridge/ freezer, table and chairs Simple breakfast provided Short drive to good pubs/ restaurants/ farm shops / cafes / National Trust properties Car required. The space This attractive, cedar clad building is close to, but entirely separate from the main house. Parking for 2 cars is right outside Though the space is compact, I have tried to provide everything essential for a comfortable, relaxing break. There is a king sized bed, two armchairs, hanging space and a chest of drawers. The wood burner is romantic in the winter and there are also 2 modern electric radiators. The bed linen is 100% cotton and soft furnishings are of high quality, the style represents my love of travel and collecting . The kitchenette area contains a sink, fridge /freezer, microwave, Nespresso machine, toaster, egg boiler and kettle. This is by no means a full kitchen but that gives guests the perfect excuse to explore the excellent local eateries or to buy something to microwave from the local Waitrose or M and S ! I provide a simple breakfast of eggs, bread, croissants, cereal, milk, tea, coffee, butter, and preserves. It was my conscious decision not to provide a hob or oven as I do not want strong cooking smells to permeate the furnishings in this relatively small space. The shower room has a vanity unit and a good shower. The hot water tank is not huge but certainly adequate for two people to have a normal shower. Outside is a private small terrace with seating and a dining table, cushions are provided. This is a lovely area to view the sheep, hens and wildlife including deer, hares and some interesting bird life. Peace and quiet is generally the order of the day ( see my reviews ) but I have no control over the bird scarer and other occasional uncharacteristic neighbourly noise from dogs, children, machinery, local shoot, etc. I have a small private pottery studio to the left of the stable accommodation. I do work quietly in here from time to time but this does not compromise your privacy or overlook your terrace area. Though you can walk happily from here, the best circular rural walks are a short drive away. It's fun to walk to the village of Old Basing in good weather ( 35mins ) there is a wonderful award winning artisan bakery , ( not open on Monday )3 pubs ( one on the river )and the ruins of Basing House. You go along the lane, across fields, through woods, and by the railway line. A longer route back by the river is enjoyable. It is not practical to walk to nearby pubs in the evening in the darker months. Best to bring good waterproof boots if you are walking in the winter ! Guest access Enter through the five barred gate and park right next to the accommodation. Most people come by car as the the nearest village of Old Basing is just over a mile away. It is fun ( though muddy in the wetter months )to walk to the historic village of Old Basing from here, up the lane, through the fields, through the woods next to the railway line and into the village. It takes just over half an hour and I would highly recommend a reward of refreshments at The Street Bakehouse (award winning artisan bakery and cafe) or at one of the three pubs. Newnham village is a similar distance away with a super family run pub called The Old House at Home. Though you can walk from here happily, the best circular country walks are a short drive away. Good boots or wellies recommended in wet weather ! Other things to note Firewood is provided for the evenings but if you wish to use the wood burner for longer periods during the day, there will be a small charge for more logs as these need to be split especially small for the size of the log burner. The nearest shops are Marks and Spencers Food and Tesco 1.9 miles away and the co-op 1.8 miles. Large Waitrose 4 miles. In the winter it is difficult to walk anywhere in the dark evenings from the property ( please ask if you want to borrow hi-viz jackets )but in the summer a walk to Old Basing across the fields and through the woods to one of the pubs or the bakery takes about 35 minutes and is very pleasant. A car is almost essential here. Not suitable for children or infants
