Jane Austen's first home in historic Bath
Jane Austen's first home in historic Bath
Description
Stylish centrally located apartment where the great Jane Austen once lived when she moved to Bath. Enjoy far-reaching views over Bath in this top-floor apartment, high above the hustle and bustle of the city. This historic property is a Grade 1 listed building, which has been lovingly restored to a high standard, while retaining its original features throughout. The famous novelist Jane Austen loved living here when she moved to Bath, and now you can enjoy the space for the first time! The space This apartment is located on the second and third floors of a Georgian terraced building built in the 1760's. There are four flights of stairs up to the flat, and then one more internal staircase inside the property, which leads to the bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. The property consists of a living room with a kitchen adjoining, and separate large dining room. There is a 'downstairs loo' and upstairs we have three bedrooms and a family bathroom. Guest access The flat is in the heart of Bath, just a stone's throw from all of the vibrant shops and restaurants that the city is famous for. Bath Abbey is a five minute walk. It is the perfect place from which to explore this stunning city, without having to talk too far at the end of the day to get back home. We do not have parking available, but we can recommend lots of options including free parking, long stay car parks and short stay options. The primary recommendation is Charlotte Street car park, which is a secure car park just a five-minute walk from the apartment. Other things to note This apartment is called 'Jane Austen Flat' because she lived here when she first moved to Bath as a young woman. 1 The Paragon was owned by her uncle, who was minister at St Swithin's Church not far away. When Jane arrived here, she wrote excitedly to her sister, describing the building and her excitement at having 'my own bedroom'. We believe this room is the dining room today.
