Am Falachan - Lochside roundhouse
Description
A bright and spacious timber roundhouse nestled below a single-track road amongst trees and by the shores of Loch Broom. Am Falachan offers a warm welcome within a private and peaceful self-contained dwelling with sweeping views over Loch Broom to Beinn Dearg and the surrounding hills. Am Falachan is located in Letters (An Leitir), 2.5 miles off the A835 and approximately 10 miles from the west coast fishing village of Ullapool. A perfect basecamp for Scotland's Highlands. The space The accommodation is a beautiful round wooden space, the front half of which is fully glazed providing a near 180 degree panorama of the surrounding view. Within this one room there is a double sofa-bed, kitchen and sitting and dining area, and additionally there is a small private shower room and an entrance porch with storage cupboards and clothes hanging space. The roundhouse sits below the single-track road and is tucked into the contour of the hill. In front is a small wooded area leading down to the sea loch which can be accessed from the roundhouse. Guest access The entire internal space is for guests' private use. Outside you will be free to roam along the loch and also walk through the woods behind our house (above the road) to the hills beyond. There are maps and walking guides in the accomodation. Facilities inside include a kitchen area with sink, small fridge, kettle, 2-ring hob and small Remoska; you are welcome to use these to prepare your own drinks and meals. Some food for a hearty first morning’s breakfasts will be provided along with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk. Please let us know if you have any dietary needs or preferences. The sleeping /sitting area has a dining table and chairs and a sofa which will be made up as a double bed (this is a high quality sofa and bespoke mattress topping, which becomes a comfortable double bed). The underfloor heating can be adjusted to suit temperature preferences and there is also a small wood burning stove for additional warmth and ambience and a cooling fan for those rare but lovely hot days! During midge season we put some light midge netting over the two opening side windows and the door frame so breeze and light can enter and the midges can't. As required by Scottish law, all electrical equipment is regularly safety checked, the stove flue swept annually and fire safety equipment installed. Other things to note Please note that the drive from the gate to the roundhouse is short but steep and does not have a tarmac surface. We advise guests to park their cars at the top of the drive by the gate and to walk the last bit. Only a 4x4 should attempt to drive down. Additional information about Am Falachan and how to get here will be available prior to arrival. Full licence number: HI-10340-F
