Description
Stunning two bedroom apartment with panoramic sea views 5 minutes from the beach; located in a tranquil two storey complex in sought after Arenal d'en Castell with communal swimming pool and gorgeous landscaped gardens, fantastic for couples or families. Walking distance to local shops, bus stops, restaurants and bars all with quiet low key traditional feel. Located 25 minutes from the airport, 20 minutes from the historic capital of Mahon and with good road links to the rest of the island. The space Bright and spacious with high ceilings and wooden beams, giving it a typical Menorcan feel. The spacious balcony has incredible views of the peninsula as it overlooks the bay and gardens and is a stunning place to sit and soak up the peace and tranquillity at any time of the day. Ceiling fans create a cooling breeze for the warmer summer months while shutters on all the windows create a cosy ambience off season. Seating in the lounge area is perfect for morning coffee, watching TV or curling up with a good book, as it has stunning uninterrupted views to the headland of Punta Grossa on the opposite side of the bay. The kitchen is well equipped for self catering with electric oven, microwave and a washing machine. There is a bathroom with shower off the hallway leading to the two bedrooms at the back of the property. The main double bedroom has a very comfortable bed, with ample storage both hanging and chests of drawers and a ceiling fan. The twin bedroom is fitted with plenty of space for clothes and a bedside cabinet, with shuttered windows so both bedrooms are dark at night, perfect if you have early morning risers who get woken by the sunlight! If you book our apartment you will also be able to hire up to 2 paddleboards which are available exclusively for our guests for just 100 euros each per week (it's 40 euros per day to hire from the beach) that will be left in the apartment for you ready for when you arrive. Full details on how to book can be found in the welcome letter, which will become available online after you have booked our apartment. We have provided lots of little extras to make your stay easier such as pool towels, board games and cards, parasol and beach equipment, pit pat bats, binoculars and welcome bottle of water, butter, bread, milk and tea and coffee ... every little helps especially with such strict luggage restrictions. Guest access There is free parking (non allocated) behind the property and the apartment is just a minutes walk from there. There are also bus stops to take you to various destinations across the island within a few minutes walk. It is an easy stroll to both of the beaches, 5 minutes to the smaller cove near White Sands resort or the larger beach just a couple of minutes beyond that. Other things to note We first visited Menorca on a family holiday in the summer of 2021. Friends and family had recommended it highly over the years so that was a great start, coupled with short flight times of around 2 hours from England or even less from mainland Europe, we were off! After spending many years working around the world and living out of a suitcase, I'm not easily impressed but I was unprepared for the vibrancy and beauty of the island. It quickly become one of our family favourites and we felt immediately relaxed. It is lower key than neighbouring Majora but has so much to offer, from its outstanding coastline and beaches (did you know it has more sandy beaches than the rest of the Balearic Islands put together), ample opportunities for peace and quiet, unparalleled swimming and diving in the crystal clear waters, enchanting villages and towns and superb shopping opportunities. We were entranced! So much so, that just four short months after our visit we are now the proud owners of this stunning property with the most spectacular views, which is furnished with considerable thought and effort to reflect the peace and character of the island. We named our property “Menorcan Escapes” for its superb location because it is somewhere you can unwind and escape everyday life for a while. We offer excellent quality self catering accommodation in an ideal location, being on the edge of the village, yet only a five minute walk to the centre. We have created a haven of peace and relaxation; a place to kick back and unwind. We hope you love it as much as we do Please note that this is a non smoking property. What you can expect season by season: WINTER SEASON NOVEMBER TO MARCH Although most of the businesses and services in the tourist urbanisations are closed during these months, and only a handful of hotels and shops remain open all year round. However a car is essential during these months as in our experience no supermarkets are open in Arenal at this time and the bus service does not run. There are a couple of pubs and cafes that sometimes open but again it does seem to be variable so should not be relied upon as somewhere to get food and drink. Winter weather can be either sunny around 10-15c or occasional strong showers or days of very strong winds. Nights are cool. This is a great time of year to enjoy hiking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and the nature trails around the island. Needless to say there is a tranquillity during these months of the year in both the towns and the beaches, yet the island is equally beautiful as in summer. Wandering through the old towns, long indulgent lunches or going for a drive to discover the countryside is a great way to pass the time or curling up with a good book on the balcony or by the pool. There are also limited flight schedules to Menorca during the winter with direct services from Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and the UK, although the flights are normally only a couple of times a week from each destination. Please check dates and times with individual companies to confirm their current schedules. SHOULDER SEASON APRIL, MAY AND OCTOBER The weather during April and May is often lovely and its the best time to enjoy the colours of spring and its lovely weather. Expect temperatures around 17-20c although there are still days of heavy rain in April especially. More shops and businesses will open up generally after the Easter holiday and from May onwards the bus service will run from Arenal to Mahon. This time of year is very pleasant time for active day excursions, although the sea is still cold as it has not had the summer heat to warm it up. Some of the supermarkets will begin opening again however a car is probably advisable in April as the reopening times do vary. October is generally still a warm enough month to sunbathe on the beach and be wearing short sleeves and summer dresses during the day, although you will find you need to layer up a bit at night as the contrast in temperature is quite noticeable. Many businesses in Arenal and the smaller towns outside of Mahon, Es Mercadel and Ciutadella will begin closing up for winter during this month so do check opening times. SUMMER SEASON JUNE TO SEPTEMBER The start of the season sees the various tourist urbanisations and resorts open completely for business with hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, entertainment and activities adapting their trading hours to the longer days and warmer weather. The flight schedules of most airlines increase their frequency to the island and the destinations from which they fly. Ferry schedules from Palma and the Peninsula also increase and the island welcomes various cruise ships into the Port of Mahon for day trips. There are also many outdoor special events such as fairs, concerts and markets in the towns across the island, and the local fiestas in each town celebrated from the end of June to the start of September. Expect temperatures mid to high 20's during this time which at times may cause you to seek shelter from the midday heat, however there is generally a good breeze particularly on the north coast so it's not unbearably hot and not overly humid. It is a perfect time for diving, kayak or sailing especially as it gives a respite from the heat of the sun however do be cautious still being out on the water in the heat as you can still get sunstroke and the wind can give you a nasty burn, so always wear and hat and high protection suncream.
