The adventure begins near the lake’s sandy shores, where swimming, water-skiing, and sailing abound. High in the Sierras, you can ski some of the steepest runs in the West. Tour the boomtown saloons of Virginia City. Then circle back through a stunning coniferous forest, try your luck on casino row and dine on mouth-watering seafood on the South Shore. Whatever your tastes, you’ll want to seize each day in heavenly Lake Tahoe. Popular Attractions Emerald Bay State Park Designated an underwater state park, Emerald Bay is the resting place for boats, launches and barges used in the lake before the turn-of-the-20th-century. The park also is home to Vikingsholm, a Scandinavian-style castle, which once was the home of heiress Lora Josephine Knight. 22 mi. south of Tahoe City. Tallac Historic Site The 74-acre Tallac Historic site captures how life was in turn-of-the-20th-century South Lake Tahoe. The site features the remains of the Tallac Resort and three large summer estates built by wealthy San Franciscans. 3 mi. north of South Lake Tahoe. Nevada State Railroad Museum Located in historical Carson City, the museum houses a collection of 65 locomotives and cars, including 40 built before 1900. Open: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily. 27 mi. Annual Festivals June/July/August: Farmers Markets and Arts and Craft Fairs October: OktoberFest, Kokanee Salmon Festival December: Tahoe Adventure Film Festival Other things to note Pool Hours are 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. Children in diapers must wear waterproof diapers designed for swimming. Main pool and children's pool are seasonal, closed from November to April. Hot tubs are open year-round. There are no lifeguards on duty.
