Description
Named 'Artists town' after the Glasgow boys & Girls, artists like EA Hornell, EA Taylor, Jessie M King, and later Charles Oppenheimer 'colonised' Kirkcudbright. They were drawn to the quality of light and the close combination of town, harbour, sea and rural landscapes. In every direction from property, you can explore the same beautiful coast line, sandy beaches, forests, castles and cultural attractions that the artists did and still do, and who's work you are surrounded by in TheLivIngallery. The space The-Liv-In-Gallery is at the heart of this Harbourside town, on Union street, which connects the medieval High Street to Castle Street. It is a 4 minute walk to the marina and working harbour, shops, cafes and restaurants. TheLivInGallery is filled with artworks by local and national artists, mostly created in response to the beauty of the area you are staying. Your stay at TheLivInGallery will fund an artist’s funded residency every season. The house is cosy, and historic. The first bedroom has a kingsize bed and bathroom. The second bedroom, accessed off a stair from the kingsize bedroom, is under the eaves, with lovely views across Kirkcudbright to MacLellan's castle. There is a wood-burning stove in the sitting room, no tv, great wifi, lots of books and board games. The courtyard garden, accessed from the street, is a lovely sun trap to sit or dine in which is adjacent to the house. Guest access Park right in front of the house. The house is in the heart of the medieval historic town centre. The sun trap courtyard garden, lovely to sit or dine in on a warm day, is accessed from the street. All amenities, cultural and natural attractions are within walking distance of the front door. Within 5 minutes walks are: a working harbour and beautiful marina, Artist Hornel’s Broughton House a National Trust property & Japanese Garden, MacLellan’s Castle, Dark Art Distilleries, Dark Space Planetarium, ancient woodlands with red squirrel watching, a multitude of galleries, 2 fresh bakeries, deli, restaurants, pubs and cafes and many more local boutique shops. Stunning local coastal walk to St Mary’s isle, or Torrs Point both with views of Little Ross Island. Driving: 5 minutes drive to The Dhoon Bay, 10 minutes to Brighouse Bay, and 20 to Carrick each beautiful shallow sandy beaches. Within 20-45 drive in any direction you'll find a huge variety of major activities and attractions; Galloway Forest (designated Dark Sky status), Scotland's 'Book Town' Wigtown, Bike trekking trails, water-sports, golf, horse-riding, beautiful Lochs, Neolithic monuments, major gardens and historic castles. This area of Dumfries Galloway, is part of the Southern Ayrshire UNESCO biosphere, and will also potentially become Scotlands 3rd National Park! Other things to note The sun trap courtyard garden, lovely to sit or dine in on a warm day, is accessed from the street. The artworks around the house are for sale. Most of TheLivInGallery’s artworks are were created by local or national artists in response to the beautiful environment you are staying in. Both sets of stairs are steep, the first has a rail. There is a separate work space. The 2nd bedroom is accessed off the first. The second bedroom has the potential for 2 single beds, if 2 beds v much under the eaves, with beautiful views. There is no TV. There is a library, a lot of it relating to the area, to read cosily by the log-burning stove.
