Spacious cottage with oak beams & log burner, 2 min stroll to Sun Inn pub serving food, walks for all abilities (many from the door). Quieter lakes, mountains & villages & busier locations within easy reach. Sundays depart@12 after 2 night weekends. The space Downstairs: enter via porch into very spacious lounge with feature red brick fireplace with log burner stove and 3 sofas and smart TV. Separate spacious fully equipped kitchen. Separate double bedroom leading off the kitchen. Wet room including shower, toilet and basin leading off the kitchen at the opposite end to the bedroom. Very large cloakroom adjoining the lounge and downstairs bedroom. Whilst spacious, we often have only couples staying in it. Upstairs: Large bedroom with double bed and one single bed and en suite with shower and toilet. Separate bathroom with shower over the bath. Outside there is an enclosed yard with seating. This is an ideal place for young and old alike. Children (and the young at heart) can spend many happy hours playing in the wood, pooh sticks from the bridge, swings, football or cricket on the village green, feeding the ducks, or just relax with a book or drink or watch the world go by. Fibre broadband. Switch off, relax and unwind in our quiet village, ideal for walking, climbing and sightseeing. Bassenthwaite is only 15 minutes drive from the popular market town of Keswick. The village pub, Sun Inn Bassenthwaite, is only a few minutes stroll along the stream for meals and local ales. You can take walks from the door down country lanes including to Bassenthwaite Lake, or for the more adventurous walk to Dash Waterfalls or climb Skiddaw mountain behind us or some of Wainwrights other northern fells. All of the Lake district within easy reach. The lakes of Loweswater, Buttermere, Crummock Water, Ennerdale, Grasmere and Rydal, Thirlmere, Ullswater and Windermere are between 25-40 mins drive (depending on traffic), as well as the closer lakes of Bassenthwaite (5 mins) and Keswick/Derwentwater (15 mins). Plenty to do and many places to eat nearby in this quieter part of the Lake District, avoiding the towns and busier villages in the Lakes if you prefer. As well as Keswick and its lake Derwentwater, the following are within 5-20 mins drive: several nearby village pubs and restaurants, refurbished Bassenthwaite Lake Station where you can breakfast, lunch or snack on the grand train from the Orient Express film, the 'locals' town of Cockermouth with many independent shops, the award winning Armathwaite Hall spa, the Lake District Wildlife Park, most of Wainwrights northern fells, Dodd Wood mountain forest and cafe, Mirehouse country house, grounds and adventure playground, the ancient church of St Bega on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. The castle city of Carlise, Hadrian's Wall, and the Solway coast ideal for dog walking, bird watching or having a picnic, are 30 - 60 mins drive. Guest access The whole of the cottage will be yours. The property adjoins two others on either side but has its own private yard entrance and porch so feels fairly separate. Off road Parking for one car adjacent to the cottage and an additional car can be parked on the quiet road by the stream a few seconds from the cottage. There is a laundry room with washing machines and dryers shared with the other guests for a small additional charge. Other things to note We know many dogs 🐕 like a holiday too and we welcome 1 dog provided you follow our doggy rules for the benefit of all guests. Your dog: - is clean when entering the cottage (bringing an old towel for muddy paws 🐾 is ideal) - preferably sleeps in a crate or you bring the dog’s bed, doesn't go on the furniture or upstairs and isn't left in the cottage alone - gets on well with other dogs and is mainly on a lead 🐕🦺 when in the courtyard and parking area outside the property due to our free range ducks and other guests and their dogs - in the yard, please clean up after your dog. If you have any queries, let us know. If you want to bring a pet other than a dog, please enquire and agree with us before booking. Initial supply of wood provided & additional basket or bags of wood available to buy. Towels, sheets, tea towels, initial toilet rolls provided. Central laundry room with washing machines and dryers shared with the other guests is available at a small additional charge about 30 seconds from the cottage. No shop in the village - Many guests order an online shop from Tesco, Sainsburys or Asda or click and collect available from Booths in Keswick. In Cockermouth, 15-20 mins drive, there is a Sainsburys, Aldi and Lidl. In Keswick, there is Booths (like Waitrose of the North!) and a medium-sized Co-op. Only the final 1/4 mile of the journey is on a country lane, so we're easy to access even in winter. Sunday check out after a 2 night weekend is 12 noon. For other stays it is 10am. Check in is between 4 and ideally 10pm. We say 10pm in case you happen to need any assistance finding the property as we are not available after 10pm. Charging of electric vehicles from the cottage is not allowed. Any guest breaching this rule will be liable for additional energy costs and any damages caused No noisy groups/parties allowed - we have other cottages and neighbours nearby and it's a quiet village. Please be quiet and respectful especially if coming in late so that you do not disturb others around you.
