Description

The Blas Payne is a historically significant true mexican adobe. It has been lovingly renovated with handmade cupboards from Mexico and a wonderful patio where you can watch the sunsets. Easy walking distance to downtown and the Post Park. Blas Payne was named "the best cowboy in west Texas" by the Houston Chronicle. His great grandfather was a medal of honor winner as a trumpeter for the Army. His family were part of a group of black seminole Indians who did scouting for the Army. The space The Blas Payne is a 100+ year old Mexican adobe. -with original items from Mexican artisans throughout the home. After a recent rennovation guests can enjoy the original exposed adobe. The bathroom was just totally redone with a wonderful tile walk-in shower, new commode and a unique sink. The house has raised ceilings, art by local artists and a fabulous patio to watch sunrises, sunsets and the darkest skies in the country! As this is a true Mexican adobe, notice the 12" thick walls which are a real part of any true old adobe. The master bedroom has a comfy queen-size bed. The 2nd bedroom has 2 single beds. With 2 bedrooms 4 guests can rest comfortably. The Blas Payne is within walking distance of downtown Marathon--approximately 3 blocks. There is parking in front of entrance and a fenced yard for guests safety while enjoying the large yard and patio. There are wonderful options for dining in Marathon: the White Buffalo Bar and the Gage restaurant, V6 offers breakfast and lunch and a new offering, the Local, also has breakfast and lunch options as well. If you love BBQ visit the Brick Vault for award winning choices. Looking for an adult beverage--the Ghost Distillery offers hand crafted burbon and vodka and pizza is also available there. If you just want a good burger and/or need gas, visit the J&G Grill for great Mexican choices as well as good burgers. Please check availability because as with all the communities in Big Bend, restaurants and food options are often changing. If you need groceries or camping supplies, visit the French Company Grocer for almost anything you would want. And on most Fridays you can get a great chef prepared burger at the beloved "burger nite" and there is usually live music as well! Marathon has an absolutely amazing local library which has just added an unbelievable addition. There you can access lots of assistance like wifi, computers, faxing etc. A new book store; Leather Bound Books, has a large selection of books as well as gift items. If you need to replenish an adult beverage, go next door to Railroad Liquors where you can get alcohol, beer and wines and also check out the railroad memorabilia and art! Want to take some "treats" back to friends and family? Check out the gift shop and art gallery at the Gage shops. Just walk out the door at the Blas Payne and you can be on Post Road. This road is great for walking and just 5 miles down the Post Road is the Post Park. It is an amazing space that has a wonderful history and is a wonderful place for picnics and family fun.! If you take a left turn on Post Road and walk a couple blocks you can visit the Gage Gardens--an amazing area with trees, local plants and peace! There is also a walking path at the back of the gardens to get your "steps" in. Guest access You will have access to the entire home. There is a coffee bar on the south wall of the kitchen with coffee, tea and all necessary supplies for your caffeine needs. There are books throughout the home which are there for guest's enjoyment as well as board games in TV cupboard in living room. The kitchen is fully equipped with an induction stove top, a convection oven in which I have cooked a turkey, a microwave, oversized electric skillet, and crock pot (between the electric skillet and the crock pot I've cooked gourmet meals). There are also two electric hot plates for more cooking options. The lovely patio gives you a great place to watch the sunset and is very quiet and peaceful! The yard has a lovely large pecan tree and the very tall pine tree has "hosted" many an owl!
