Description

On BackBeach. Stunning sunsets & spectacular views up the River Teign 2 Dartmoor. Step outside to beach, swimming. Ask to use: Kayak; small boat mooring; firepit & Bar-B-Q. Logburner. Shared private patio, people watching. Popular Ship Inn and sailing school doors away. Tranquil/vibrant depending on season. Front beach 5 minutes walk. Shaldon Ferry, Arts Quarter, town centre, a few minutes walk. Trains 10 mins walk. Dartmoor National Park under 20 miles. The space Lots to do, but also a perfect place to do nothing here on the Back Beach in Teignmouth, my home town. More tranquil in the winter, and especially cosy with the wood-burner (logs provided) on high tides and stormy nights. Enter through the small courtyard and then the grey door. This is your own private and self-contained space. Go up the flight of stairs to the first floor. Here is your bathroom (WC, shower, hand basin) the landing with a chest of drawers for your use. There are two locked doors on this floor which access rooms which are private and not in use. Go up the next flight of stairs to the open plan living room, kitchen and dining area. The main living area is a great space with log burner, new central heating system. Books new Smart TV, Netflix, Wifi, Bose speaker. Stunning views. The bi-fold window faces the beach and up the River Teign to Dartmoor with Haytor Rock on the horizon. Go up the steep steps, with hand rail to the bedroom space. Please use these stairs/steps with care and use hand rail (right hand side going up) and go up and down facing the stairway. Please be mindful of the roof height when on the mezzanine. The apex is around 5.9, but apart from the bedroom it is an extra space to just chill and get cosy on the huge comfy bean bag with throws. To look at the view, read, or download your favourite tunes from your device and connect to the Bose sound system. Please be aware that the WC is on the first floor landing as described above. For walkers, the Templar Way passes just outside - an 18 mile hike to Haytor. For artists and photographers the light and coastal/rural scenery from the house is gorgeous. River activity to watch from the house includes: harbour seal; swans/sea birds, cargo ships, rowers and amazing sunsets. The house has a 'Trot' a mooring for a small boat which you are free to use for your own boat. Perfect for visiting Exeter, or Dartmoor for a walk and a pub lunch. More tranquil in the autumn and winter months, but still plenty to do - local shops; Arts Quarter; pubs, restaurants; live music events; Pavilions Community Arts centre. The seawall and the front beach are great for storm watching, and surfers. You may also spot a fox on the cliff embankment, dolphins out at sea, and a bird of prey high above the cliff near the TEIGNMOUTH sign. Two car parks 2-3 minutes walk from my place. One of my favourite times of day: After the crowds have gone home (on a sunny day) looking out of my window, at the River Teign, with the lights of Shaldon Bridge on calm waters, and Venus rising in the night sky. Good for the heart. Kitchen provisions: tea and coffee and other basics - e.g. vinegars, oils, salt, pepper. Also Continental breakfast. You are provided with traditional deck chairs to take out front to the beach. If they have been put away for the winter months, just ask. Also a Tommy Bahama parasol for the beach and towels. Because of the lay out, this space is not suitable for children. Guest access You have access to the whole of the loft space with your own bathroom, entrance via Teign View Place. Picture window/bi-fold doors. You have use of the private patio facing the beach; shared with the neighbours either side and guests in separate unit on ground floor. There is a vintage cast iron bistro set on patio for your use. The small back courtyard is for access. It can be accessed by guests downstairs to leave the property/unload/load if need be. Other things to note Bustling in summertime/weekends when locals and visitors gather at the beach, enjoying food and a beverage; Enjoy a pint or glass of wine as the sun goes down over Dartmoor Paddle boarding etc at the sailing school, swimming The back beach area is a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike. Several recommended restaurants Natural coastal beauty/walks As it is beachfront you will be aware of the gulls who are more or less active depending on the time of year. November 1 (due to tides) You will be staying in the heart of the back beach community where much of the summer fun takes place - and across the river - a ferry ride/stroll over the bridge away. Vibrant and lively in the summer - especially so at the many community events throughout the year when there is a buzz of the events and locality. Teignmouth Annual Ship Inn (2 doors down) Music Festivals May and August Bank Holidays; (The Ship also has live music for 2 hours on Sunday evenings 6.30-8-30, or 5.30-7.30 (it varies) outside in the summer and early autumn months. The Newquay Inn a short walk live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Please contact me for details if you want to know more. A lot of these/summer activities are on the estuary and some directly in front of the house so it gets lively, as well as during sunny week-ends. Brilliant, so book early if you like it - not so much if you want tranquility which you get here in the winter and out of season! We also have other events throughout the year at several venues including: - Pavilions Teignmouth - an Arts and Community Centre; - TAAG Arts and Community Centre- events, activities and exhibitions; - The Oyster Catcher Cafe with Community events including - quizzes, live music, tapas evenings; poetry. - The Ice Factory Teignmouth - A great place to go for Studio Theatre Exeter nearby (30-minute train ride); I recommend 'Cathedral Close,' the museum, Gandy street (shops and bars), the Quay area. Dartmoor is 30 minutes in the car; I especially recommend Haytor (granite tor) and Widecombe-in-the-Moor (village with good pub food).
