Cozy cabin with annex
Cozy cabin with annex
Description
We are so lucky to have a cozy cabin in Bagn in Valdres! Unfortunately, we don't get to use it as much as we would like, and we will therefore make it possible for others to use the place. Our cabin was built in 1999, so this is not a 18th century mountain farm. It is still what we define as a "cabin", with oil lamps, gas stove, wood stove, solar cells and an outdoor toilet. You can drive all the way up in summer and winter, but the cabin is still remarkably well located about 20 min. from Bagn city center. The space Inside the main cabin there are three bedrooms with double beds in all rooms. We also have a single bed in the living room, and it can be used to doze with a book, or it can be slept in at night. In addition, we have a charming annex with a double bed. The annex has a wood burning stove and large windows facing the forest. There is a living room and open kitchen in one, with a dining table with room for 6 (or more if you like to gather many friends) and sofa and armchairs. We have thick carpets in real wool, so it is warm and good both at the dining area and on the sofa. The wood-burning stove is centrally located, so we enjoy the coziness and warmth from it if we eat, wash, play games or read. By the way, there are many board games to choose from, so the chance of putting away screens is quite real! In the kitchen we have a stove and fridge, both of which run on gas. The cabin is well equipped with various cups and bowls, so we would say that it is what is needed to cook. Otherwise, we have installed a sink and pipes that go out, so the dishes are as smooth as you get them without electricity and hot water. We have drilled for water and have our own pump out in the yard. We primarily heat the water on a large boiler on the wood stove. The water from the pump can also be drunk, so you don't have to bring water from home. We have furnished a bathroom with a wash basin and mirror. This room borders the wall of the wood stove, so the room gets a pleasant warmth when the cabin is gradually heated. In addition, we have an extra gas stove, and it is good to have in the bathroom after cold ski trips. There is no mains power, but we have solar cells with a capacity for charging mobile phones, radio and some lamps, and we have a generator for, for example, a vacuum cleaner. We have a huge husky ourselves, so you are welcome to bring your own dog if you have one! But it's not a party place. Guest access So what is there to do? If you like skiing, there are great opportunities for it almost right outside the cabin door. This is not Sjusjøen, so you will not see other skiers from the cabin. The youngsters also think it's fun to jump from the cabin roof in winter! Maybe you like fishing? There are several lovely fishing waters a nice walk away, such as Rabaltjern. We go here with children as young as 6 years old, and we even get the 15-year-old teenager with us. It's great to catch trout! The mountain area does not offer the highest peaks, so it is well suited for the whole families to go hiking. There are plenty of opportunities for long trips as well, and we have gradually gained a good overview and can contribute with trip tips. If you want to explore on your own, Bjødalsfjellet and Nystølsvarden can be good starting points. We have hiking maps of the area. Ellingsæter is located 6 km towards Bagn city center. It is a nice place where you can buy groceries such as milk and bread, some fruit and vegetables, ice cream and various household items. In the café section they sell cool things like coffee, soda and baked goods. At times they also have Friday taco! Check out the place on their website to get an overview. However, we recommend for weekend shopping, for example, Spar down in Bagn city center. There is also a sports shop, liquor store, grocery stores and bakery. In summer there is a charming swimming hole at Ellingsæter. The water is cold, and it makes you tough. If you drive the other way, you will come to Gol (about 40 minutes drive), and there are nice cafes, an exciting thrift store and Tropicana water park! There are also alpine facilities there. When we are in the cabin for a longer period of time, a day trip down to Gol can be a nice change for both adults and children. There is a nice dining area outside and here we have sun until well into the evening in summer. Fire pan for sausages and cheese sandwiches
