A large, quality & authentic log cabin built in 1934 on the edge of Cook Forest in Jefferson County, PA. Situated in 9 acres of private woodland providing privacy yet located close to vacation amenities such as restaurants, stores, cycling, hiking trails, kayaking & tubing on the Clarion River, pony trekking, go-karting, fishing, hunting & more. Featuring a living room, dining room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeping loft, hot tub, patio with grill, deck, porch & fire-pit area. The space Stanroph Cabin is a traditional and authentic log cabin built in 1934 from American Chestnut logs and 'chinking' as per the style synonymous with the Cook Forest area. The original front door is via a covered wooden porch which features a swing, tables & chairs, rocking chairs and leads directly into the living room. From the living room there is a hallway leading to the master bedroom and middle bathroom. The original guest bedroom is accessed from the living room via door located at the bottom of the open wooden staircase that leads up to the sleeping loft. A second hallway, that used to be the original kitchen, is now a utility area with closets, sink and cupboards - this also leads into the current kitchen. The kitchen comprises of a table and chairs with a beautiful view into the forest and features various appliances including stove/oven, dish washer, washing machine, dryer, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee machines, toaster & hot water kettle. There is a pantry, double sink and ample worktop space. The cupboards and drawers contain cooking pots, plates, bowls, glasses and cutlery. Towards the end of the kitchen is a modern 2-stage water filtration system providing great tasting, clean, natural well water. At the back of the kitchen is the rear bathroom which also contains a closet housing the well pump switch & water heater. In 1977 the cabin was extended using stone rather than logs to add a dining room, main guest bedroom, and a covered patio to the property. The patio includes a hot tub and natural gas grill with a large (24' x 12') adjoining deck. The side entrance is located off the patio and accesses into the dining room. Although the cabin is primarily for vacation purposes there are tables in both the dining room and kitchen which provide ample space for using a laptop with good lighting and numerous electrical sockets in close vicinity. Note: Both bathrooms comprise of a toilet, sink and shower. Enjoy various wildlife close by the cabin and on the grounds including a variety of birds, white-tail deer in the early morning or evening, possums, squirrels, foxes, raccoons, chipmunks, and wild turkey depending on the time of year. Guest access The entire cabin and whole 9 acres are available for use by guests including the covered grilling patio and front covered porch. There is covered seating on the porch and outside seating around the fire pit and on the large deck. There is a wide selection of books, toys and board games as well as WiFi Internet, Television, streaming TV channels, Amazon Firestick, Apple TV, DVD player, and Wii console. Cell reception is not great in the area depending on network but the cabin is fitted with a booster to help increase what reception there is. For best cell reception turn on 'WiFi Calling' in your phone settings if available from your provider. Note: The property also has a double garage and bunk house. These are not accessible to guests. Other things to note General: Cabins can typically have low door frames and ceiling heights with ours being no exception! Some of the doorways are lower than you might encounter at home so for anyone around 6 feet tall like myself please be careful not to bang your head. In time you get used to which ones are a bit lower than expected... The stairs to the loft have a low ceiling as do the doorways and ceilings up there. Smaller children will in general not have a problem but adults or taller children may do so please be careful. Access: The cabin is located along a private road off Route 36 (PA-36). This road is unpaved so during Spring, Summer & Fall access is not an issue via car or motorcycle. During winter the road is plowed by a local contractor once 3+ inches has fallen and in the order of his rounds. During times of high snowfall access via AWD or 4WD vehicles is usually not a problem but motorcycles or 2WD vehicles may encounter issues tackling the slight incline leading up to the cabin itself. Snow chains can help but are not a guaranteed solution. As with the weather encountered in northern PA, freezing rain can make conditions difficult - thankfully this is not a frequent occurrence. Air Conditioning: Recently we invested in an A/C addition to the cabin HVAC system. This is not found in the majority of cabins in the Cook Forest area as it is a significant investment and is expensive to run. We would respectfully ask that if the A/C is used during your stay then please keep all windows & doors closed. EV Charger: A 32 amp NIMA 14-50 outlet (Level 2) is available for charging your Electric Vehicle. Your own mobile connector cable will be needed. The outlet is locked so if you have an EV and wish to use it during your stay please message me after booking to receive the code with your Checkin instructions. Firewood: There are numerous sources of seasoned firewood available in various sized bundles for purchase along Route 36 (PA-36). During late Fall, Winter & early Spring we provide a complimentary starter bundle of oak logs for the wood stove in the Living Room. During late Spring, Summer & early Fall we try to have some split pine and logs in the open part of the wood store for burning in the fire-pit but availability depends on how much gets used by previous guests and when we are able to get more split. Please practice fair use of this wood so there is enough for future guests and feel free to gather outside firewood from the property that is on the ground but do not allow children to climb on piles of logs. Grill: A quality Weber natural gas grill is available for use. Please ensure this is properly cleaned after use prior to checkout. Grounds: The cabin is located within 9 acres of forest. Please refer to the Lot Map at the rear of the Handbook for the layout of the grounds and avoid trespassing onto neighboring properties (most of which are ‘posted’ with yellow signs on trees). With Cook Forest being a tourist vacation area there are other cabins in the vicinity but far enough away to provide adequate seclusion and privacy. Handbook: Within the cabin we have provided a handbook that contains information about the cabin, the property policies, essential contact details, How-To instructions, and some suggestions on where to go and what to do. There are also a number of leaflets and magazines covering local attractions and a guestbook with suggestions from previous guests. There is a Lot Map in the binder that shows the property boundaries and the location of the cabin within the largest Lot. Hunting: This is prohibited at Stanroph Cabin and neighboring lands. State Game Lands 283 is close by on the South side of Route 36 (PA-36) and is open for hunting and recreational use. Some of Cook Forest State Park is also open to hunting. Please check the relevant websites for further details. Power: The cabin is fitted with a natural gas backup generator that is located behind the garage to minimize noise when running. If there is a power outage then the generator will automatically kick in within 3-6 seconds and turn off when mains power is restored. The generator has sufficient power to run the whole of the cabin. Smoking: No smoking inside the cabin but smoking is permitted outside. Please dispose of cigarette butts safely & responsibly in the receptacle provided. Taxes: Pennsylvania sales & use tax (6%) is collected by AirBnB upon booking along with Jefferson County hotel tax (5%). Trash & Recycling: Please use the recycling totes provided within the hallway double closet in order to reduce the amount of trash that ends up in land fill. We can recycle locally, which is great, but for trash we have to haul it offsite for disposal. Water: This is provided via an on-site well that goes through a 2-stage water treatment system so no need to bring bottled water.
