Unusual: Sleep in a 1940s Bunker!
Unusual: Sleep in a 1940s Bunker!
Description
A real time machine, this experience will literally teleport you to the eve of World War II for a night! I invite you to spend the night in this old bomb shelter, reconstructed in every detail, to immerse young and old in the daily life of a soldier in 1940 and learn a little more about our history in a fun and immersive way. So?! Are you ready for the challenge? The space A little history: Built in 1939 by the military workforce as part of the Maginot Alpine Line, this small underground "metro sheet" shelter was part of a large defensive lock organized around the Montgenèvre Pass. The Alpine hunters who occupied it had the mission of blocking the road that leads to Briançon in case of invasion by Italian troops. In June 1940, the attack led by Mussolini during the first battle of the Alps was stopped there. And now? As a direct witness of the past, I wanted to bring this place back to life, so that it could tell you its story. Inside, everything is there, as if the occupants of the time had just left; bunk beds, wool blanket, regulatory bowls, wood stove, uniforms, telephone, cards, etc. As if the bunker was still waiting for the next shift... What if the next watch was for you? Guest access At the exit of the village of La Vachette towards Névache, leave the entrance to the "Le Montana" campsite on your right and take the dirt track on your left that passes through the meadows towards the LARA cemetery. The bunker is just above it. Attention! In winter, the dirt track turns into a cross-country ski trail. You must therefore park at the entrance to the campsite (closed this season) and go up the groomed track for 200 m to access the bunker. Other things to note Attention! In winter conditions, this experience is for an informed audience, knowing mountain refuges and mastering some basics (know how to light and maintain a fire, move in the snow...). To make the immersion as convincing as possible, I made sure that most amenities respect the way of life of the time: - so there is no WIFI or TV in the bunker. - The duvets are wool blankets. - the heating is the cooking are provided by a wood burning stove. - The plates are soldier bowls. - the little corner is outside. - the toilet is a basin. Still, some modernities are needed so you can make the most of your stay: - a photovoltaic network provides lighting and allows you to charge all your electronics. (Phones, cameras, tablets, laptops etc ... ) - Bedding is new and comfortable.
