Beautiful and Quaint Converted Stable in Rutland
Beautiful and Quaint Converted Stable in Rutland
Description
This Grade-2 Listed, self-contained, dog-friendly cottage is the perfect hideaway for a couple looking to enjoy the beautiful Rutland countryside. Ketton is only a few minutes drive from the beautiful town of Stamford, or Rutland Water with its stunning views and local Ospreys. Oakham is also a short drive away. There's a Camra award-winning pub a few minutes walk away and plenty of circular walks in the surrounding countryside, from the accommodation or further afield, to work up a thirst. The space We believe the accommodation used to be a stable block, built at the same time as the main house in 1857. This was fully restored and converted in to guest accommodation in 2021, when the current owners moved in. It's situated in the historic 'Aldgate' area of Ketton, minutes away from a serene river and local farmland hosting sheep, horses and pigs. We also have our own wildlife, with a Dalmatian dog, 2 cats, and a variety of birds nesting in boxes in and around the garden. The accommodation itself is over 2 floors, with the ground floor being an open-plan space incorporating a seating area, kitchenette and a table for eating. The ground floor has glass 'bi-fold' doors along one wall, which open to combine with the private patio and create a beautiful space that overlooks the garden. The patio has a pergola, with lights, creating an enchanting place for evening drinks. The kitchenette has everything you'll need to self-cater your stay, with an induction hob (plus kettle and pans) combination microwave, fridge, crockery and cutlery. There's also tea, coffee, sugar and porridge, plus a pint of milk at the start of each stay. We're also happy for guests to use the fresh herbs from our kitchen garden, depending on the season. The toilet / wet room is also on the ground floor, through an internal door. The bedroom is on the first floor, up an innovative space-saving staircase. This is far better than the rickety ladder that was originally in the property! PLEASE NOTE: The accommodation is for 2 people sharing the double bed, as we no longer have a sofa bed in the property. For comfort, both floors have an electric wall heater for the colder months, plus the bedroom has Velux windows for the summer. All the bedroom windows have 'blackout' blinds, ensuring you get a good nights sleep. For practicality there's also a hanging rail, full length mirror, hair dryer and multiple plug sockets. From a safety perspective, there's a fire extinguisher on each floor, a fire blanket in the kitchenette and a first aid kit. If there's anything you need but can't find, your hosts will be more than happy to advise. Guest access Access to the grounds is via wooden gates, ensuring the area is secure for all but the most determined of pets. Guests are provided with a single parking space on a gravel drive within the grounds of the property. This space is suitable for a normal-size family vehicle. Guests in larger camper vans or with trailers will be responsible for organising their own parking, although the hosts may be able to advise of options. The accommodation is in a standalone building, with access via a keysafe next to the main door. Details will be provided upon booking, but this allows guests to come and go as they please. As the hosts also use the driveway there may be the need for 'car shuffling' on occasion, but they'll try and keep this to a minimum and agree a routine with any guests staying for a longer period of time. Other things to note The local pub (The Railway Inn) does not provide food, other than crisps and other snacks. However, there are several lovely gastro-pubs a short drive away, so please speak to your host for recommendations if needed. There is a village shop open 7-days a week (half-days on Sunday) which sells a wide variety of groceries, including local produce. This also incorporates a Post Office should you need to send any postcards! The accommodation contains an OS map and some books containing local walks, but if you'd like some tips on where to go, your host is a Scout Leader and keen cyclist, so always happy to help you find somewhere to explore! For guests staying for an extended period of time, the hosts will provide additional facilities within the accommodation fee: 1) The hosts are happy to provide clean laundry (bedding & towels) each week. 2) The hosts will provide access to a washing machine and clothes drying facilities (airer or tumble dryer). The guests will be required to provide their own detergent / washing tablets etc. 3) There is a dustpan and brush in the accommomdation, but the hosts are happy to provide a vaccum cleaner when needed. That's about it, but if you have any questions about the accommodation or the local area, please send a message, as your hosts are happy to help. Doug & Ann
