Description
Built in 1925, Maybecks' “Cubby” is your private, rustic, 750 sq ft, carriage house located less than a mile from Cal. Homey and basic - the deck is great for lunch, dinner, or just hanging out. It's an easy walk down to the gourmet ghetto, Thursday Markets, buses and BART. Carport provided, a car is recommended (hey it's located in the hills.) Not baby proofed, minimal fencing - sorry, no pets, babies or toddlers. Smoke free, no butts about it. Sorry, no loud music, or large gatherings. The space The Cubby sits on Maybecks' original property. The main house burned to the ground but his carriage house (Cubby) survives. Great walks to the Rose Garden, Greenwood Commons and Bay views from the deck. This neighborhood is Maybeck country and many examples are just a walk away. House reading books include Maybecks' work and Bay Area hiking/walking/bird guides. Please be aware of the strict cancellation policy. Traveler's insurance is advised. Guest access Two people may rent the house. It opens to the outdoors (can be dusty)and during the Fall, but cobwebs seem to spring up overnight. There's a carport and a SMART bedroom TV - bring your passcodes. Sorry, no large parties. Please, no fireplace fires during the summer and part of Fall - high fire season. Other things to note Though the Cubby is set back from the road, there is commute traffic so if you're looking for total quiet, this is not your stay. Even in the hills, Berkeley is a little city. It can be chilly in the winter but I've installed a new upstairs bedroom heater so now, the whole house is heated. If you are a big person or have health issues, the stairs and bathrooms may not suit you.
