Command your view of ocean and tree tops – build some balance in your life. Whether an on-your-own adventure or reconnecting with loved ones, our small, architectural, two bedroom + loft house is located in an unusually secluded spot with an uninterrupted panorama. Number 3 on the New York Times list of "52 Places To Go" (2014), house looks over the dramatic five mile stretch of coastline featured in the Times article. Great spot to unwind, to write your book, paint your masterpiece. The space The house and deck include a distant view of the Point Arena Lighthouse, circa 1868. Property is located on ten remote acres, three hours north of San Francisco, and set on a ridge top, down a dirt road. At this spot, it is approx. 300 meters above and 3.5 kilometers away from the ocean we look over, in front of which is a view of naked green hills with deep forests of redwoods, Doug Fir and Bull Pine. At night there are only a few lights to be seen in the dozens of square miles of landscape in view. This house is generally available for dates throughout the year. Please check our calendar for available dates and write to inquire. Guests can expect an architecturally re-imagined 1970's hippie house in the woods, with spectacular natural surrounds. The house (1400 + sf ) was remodeled fifteen years ago by a noted architect and has radiant-heat hardwood floors, a mix of Boston antiques, modern museum chairs and lighting, concrete counters and an extensive National Geographic and literary library. Two collections of short stories, a novel, and an autobiography have all been written in this house. Ideal setting for almost any creative project, including collaborations. We have an eat-in kitchen with a Swedish dishwasher and a concrete table on wheels. There is one common bath, a living room/library, pop-out dining room, an open loft used as the master bedroom, and two small downstairs bedrooms – the first with a double, Tempurpedic-style bed and French doors opening onto a deck, under a massive bull pine. The second downstairs bedroom has an early American twin 4 post bed with tempurpedic mattress topper and, down a steep ravine, a year-round creek cascading over 5 foot drops, reached by a 50-60 minute RT hike back around the mountain roads and through the woods. The property sits down a mile and a half of dirt road on a steep mountain side, which is accessible year-round. Point Arena is the second western-most spot in the continental U.S. and is one of six locations around the globe selected by NASA for uncontaminated air quality samples. In addition to the lighthouse museum (URL HIDDEN) our tiny city has a gourmet market, a pair of noted restaurants in the nearby surrounds, a restored vaudeville theater, now a cinema (URL HIDDEN) with a new (usually independent) film each week. Once a month, the venue hosts live theater. Point Arena also has a French bakery and is located an hour south of the village of Mendocino. Local sports include biking, kayaking and hiking along the coast, fishing, diving and surfing off the pier, and mountain biking right on our road. Inland, a 1.25 hour from our residence, is Mendocino's famous wine country which boasts the only still-free wine tastings in the region.
