The space About This Home I have lived in my historic, whimsical and charming Hell’s Kitchen apartment since the 1970s. Our home is Safe & Cozy, Clean & Comfortable - it is the Real Deal! You will experience living in New York like a true New Yorker. We are approved for Short-Term Rental by the NYC Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement. The legal registration number is: OSE-STRREG-0000015. PLEASE read these important details so you don't have any surprises upon arrival! About the Neighborhood: Hell's Kitchen is one of NYC's most vibrant, fun and safe neighborhoods. The location is the perfect place to enjoy all that NYC has to offer. You will be only minutes away from Times Square, The Theater District, The Hudson River Park/Intrepid and Central Park. Just outside the door you will find wonderful nightlife, bars, restaurants and shops. There's a market a block and a half away that has just about every food item that you could ever imagine and a deli on the corner open 24/7. We are located very close to the A, C and E subway lines and the 1, 2 and 3 and N and R are only one block further away. Several bus lines run nearby. MoMA and midtown are an easy walk and you can be just about anywhere in Manhattan in 30 minutes or less. About the Building: Our home is on the second floor of a historic tenement building and is one flight up with NO ELEVATOR. You must be able to carry your bags up ONE flight of stairs. Please understand this is not a hotel. It's our home where we live. It's an historic New York City apartment building called a 'tenement' with high ceilings and thick walls. There are no building amenities (doorman/gym/etc.) and there is NO elevator. It is not a luxury building but a safe, clean, and comfortable building in a fabulous location. The building is thoroughly and greatly cared for but shows its age in some places. Expect to find some loving wear and quaint aging. About the Guest Space: You will have access to a large guest space in my home with complete privacy. The guest space consists of one or 2 double beds, small dining table, kitchenette and bathroom. The guest space has two windows, a very high ceiling, an air conditioner, chair, television, record player, books galore (if you see one you like you can take it!) radio, alarm clock, plenty of hooks and hangers, and a larger dresser with 3 drawers. The air conditioner cools the entire space quickly but there are also two portable fans and two ceiling fans. My home is not child friendly and it is designed for use by just one or two guests. You must be a non-smoker. We will be present during your stay so no parties are permitted. The main bed is double size with a very firm futon mattress with a thick topper on a wooden frame, The topper is 100% Eco Wool filled with a soft yet durable organic hemp/cotton encasement for year-round comfort, keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Pillows are of the highest quality with two varieties that are specially made for many major hotels wrapped in quilted 233 or 300 thread count, 100% cotton woven fabric ticking, and filled with hypoallergenic, extra fine and soft gel fiber fill or hypoallergenic polyester fill. The second bed is a Murphy bed, double size which lifts up and then becomes a beautiful wooden table. Before arrival you must let us know if you want to use the second bed or the table so we can make up the bed. Sadly, the Murphy bed cannot be changed daily. It has to either stay up or down during your entire stay and you must decide BEFORE your arrival. The dining area has a small table and two chairs, a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, toaster oven, plates, glasses, utensils, etc. The bathroom has a toilet, sink, bathtub and shower. We supply towels and shower mats and floor mats. Guests are provided with a few electricity adapters and a hair dryer. A clothing steamer is available in lieu of an iron which works very well if your clothing gets wrinkled. There are umbrellas for guest use. We do ask that any food garbage is removed daily. We do NOT provide breakfast. But we DO provide complimentary wine. We have fire and carbon monoxide detectors. We provide ear plugs because Hell's Kitchen is an exciting, vibrant and sometimes loud neighborhood. We do not enter the guest space to clean during the course of your stay. Your cleaning fee is for the initial cleaning. A thorough cleaning and sanitizing is done just prior to your check in. We provide extra garbage bags for your convenience. We do not change towels or sheets during the course of your stay. We have limited storage space and do not have enough towels and sheets like a hotel to keep changing. There is NO laundry in the building. If this is a concern there is a Laundromat on the corner of 10th Avenue (1/2 block away). It's card operated or they will do the laundry for you quite inexpensively. I will never invade your privacy. I will always contact you before entering. About Check-In: The building is safe with two locked entry doors and then a ONE FLIGHT WALK UP to the front door of the apartment. There is NO ELEVATOR. Unlike a hotel, we give guests the option of flexible check in and check out times if previously arranged. We do not allow self check-in. Someone must be home to let you into the building and into the apartment. Before booking you must let us know your approximate check in and check out times so we can make arrangements to be home to give you the keys and get them back when checking out. If arriving and/or departing by plane we need to know the itinerary (flight numbers, airlines, departure city, etc) so we can track your flight. If you are coming by bus or train or driving, we need that information also. I am very responsive to texts and phone calls regarding your stay. I’m always available to answer questions. After over 45 years in the neighborhood, I am an expert at suggesting wonderful out-of-the-way eating places and things to do. Registration Details OSE-STRREG-0000015 Guest access Enjoy access to one of the best and safest Manhattan neighborhoods in the middle of everything. During your stay You control the amount of interaction with us that you are comfortable with. I have a broad knowledge of New York City acquired from living here since the artist loving 50's. I'm a working actor and playwright and know a lot about the theater scene especially Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway. Other things to note Many of my belongings are in the guest room but I will never invade your privacy. If I need something in the room, I will always contact you before entering.
