Description

J. F. Cole House, National Registry Historic Home, was constructed in 1889. This is a lovely i-frame with rear ell & gables in Federalist & Gothic style. The owner, J. F. Cole was a mercantile / pharmacist. Mr. Cole's home exudes historic charm & idiosyncrasies of historic architecture. J. F. Cole, Carthage native, lived & died in the home, as did his sister. Our home was noted haunted by the realtor. Orbs, sounds, & open cabinet doors occur; however, peaceful & zero negativity here. The space Please read the following in making your decision regarding a booking - we have found that guests who are intending to participate in Pinehurst golf events and/or family and friends in Pinehurst do not like to stay in Carthage and prefer a Pinehurst environment, which - unfortunately - Carthage is not. Now we do love golfers but just sharing the trending analytics, we do know our friends in Pinehurst when told you are staying in Carthage - may extend a chuckle as we are like their unmentioned step-sister town. :-) There are two rooms; however, each is a separate and the Executive Room is booked presently long-term. Only the Capn' Suite is available now (4.21 to 8.31.2021). Our suites are more resonant with guests who enjoy an authentic Historic Home with family experience over a museum quality experience. We have museum pieces, but are trending to be best enjoyed by guests under 60 years of age who are single . . . so please take a minute to review "The Space" write-up that is designed to share perks and deficits for guests to make informed Airbnb Experience choices. :-) Peace and Love in 2021! EXECUTIVE SUITE: The Executive Suite has a dual-nature to it. We've decorated with antiquities that are collectible and ask guests be mindful of their value. We've chosen light-hearted coloration (e.g.: pinks, blues, browns and greens). As the first room to your left from the front door - the Feng Shui results in positive Chi and the front door to J. F. Cole House in bright red is good Feng Shui power flow, which we believe our guests benefit from - currently with long-term occupancy. Both rooms include queen sized covered high-end mattresses. In the Executive Suite there is a settee in burgundy velour, a gentleman's dresser - with room for belongings (e.g.: has some accoutrements included - hair dryer, band-aids, additional towels, etc.)., a spinnet desk for computing purposes or writing (i.e.: we do have writer community events and this is a good author working space), a book shelf with paperback novels for guests to read and/or exchange, and a side-former buffet table used for storage of sundries. The closet is available and houses a "cot" easily set up that is "loved" by everyone who sleeps on it. Extra bedding is in the closet atop the shelf to the left. CAPN' SUITE: The Capn' Room is up a flight of stairs with a banister that has wiggle, which our handyman is repairing but want noted. This room has a more nautical theme, with two dressers, two closets, two nightstands (with lift lids for storage), a side-chair and a table. There is a telescope for viewing the stars at night. A widow's peak, which is being worked on that is not recommended for use other than fresh air and a view. Capn' Suite does have a television. It adjoins the full bathroom with tub. The bathroom is shared. The Suite has plank wood floors and in this 140 year old Nationally Registered Historic Home it results in squeaking while walking. An associate who performs interior decorating did provide room prep for guests stays. There is always a bowl of caramels / mints in our suites and A cot can be made available upon request. BATHROOMS: Executive Suite Bathroom: is a standard 1.5 bath. The shower enclosure, due to the age of the Historic Home, is small; however, a standard size adult is comfortable. "If" a full bath is requested, we do open up the bath located upstairs, but require a 48-hour advance notice to make it guest-ready as it is in our private living space. Capn' Suite Bathroom: is a full bath - again as a Historic Bathroom - there is a wrap-around from the toilet to the sink. The tub is standard full size - it is not a modern large tub with jets. The bathroom conjoins to the Capn' Suite through a door, which locks upon closure. There is another door to the landing, that also locks; however, when the door is closed - we have a knock before entry on all doors to ensure guest privacy. ><><><><><>< All rooms are non-smoking. ><><><><><>< MAIN LIVING AREA: Our main living areas are shared with Mr. Hatcher, Miss Hatcher, and Ms. Quesinberry. As Hosts we are residents in our Historic Home - if you are hoping for a private kitchen, private living room, private dining room, or extended periods of time with no one here - you'll not find that here. There is always someone in the home 24/7/365. If we provide a front door key - we then change the locks post our guests' stay - because someone is always here - we do not provide a front door key to every guest. Where guest hours extend beyond midnight - as Hosts we remain in the living room to rest and keep the door unlocked until our guests' arrive to ensure their safe return and then lock up for the night. The main living areas include the living room, the dining room and the den / office. PORCHES: There are two porches available for relaxation - the front porch and the side porch. The side porch is more private and has a view of the yard and forest. Our intent is to add some scroll shades for the side porch. Either porch guests can smoke at but we do not permit indoor smoking. If you have permission for medicinal marijuana and are from a state where this is legal - we do respect your requirement based on the law regarding travel and legal marijuana. We do not know those laws and rely on guests to follow them while carrying the full weight of responsibility regarding same. If you use CBD in smoke, candy, pill or other form it is acceptable here; some of our family members do smoke CBD and use the oil as recommended by their physicians - so it is fine with us. CBD does smell like marijuana and guests are forewarned, albeit we do include air fresheners, essential oil treatments, scented candles (a favorite of ours), and incense to keep our home fragrant. Also, we do play ambient neurolinguistic music oftentimes that clears resonance / dissonance in the airwaves throughout the day (hertz frequencies and hemi-sync). If these will bother you during your visit - do let us know pre-booking. SPECIAL REQUESTS: For parents, if you request a child's portable crib - we are able to make one available upon request with advance notice. Basically, any/all special requirements are best if we are informed regarding same as early as possible to better prepare for your visit. DINING ROOM: In the dining room we often have homemade soup, fruits, breads, cheeses, wines, etc. If these are out, warming, with dishes - you are welcome to self-serve and enjoy. If the wine is stocked and not on the table - it is available for purchase. If wine is opened, on the table, with glasses - you are welcome to help yourself. Many guests gift wine for our next guests' enjoyment and we honor that by using gifted bottles with impending guests. If you are a non-drinker and would not like wine set on the table during your stay - we are happy to accommodate your request - just note this in an email message through Airbnb. Our laundry room can be made available - we do charge extra for the water and laundry soap if it is a routine use during a stay over three days. Our kitchen is available for microwaving, some cooking, and for storing some food supplies - this is a "home and family" kitchen - there are always dishes in rotation from meals, we do have a dishwasher and still often have remaining dishes for a next cycle. We are still working on the kitchen regarding flooring, etc., which we do not feel is as attractive as we'd like; therefore, our preference is to keep the kitchen a private space to avoid negative feedback because it is still in the upgrade mode but everything works & we do make it available upon request. LOCATION: J. F. Cole House is within walking distance to Carthage's town center. There are some wonderful shops in our quaint little town that can appear to be just waking up after a long-sleep with one-half the town's shops vacant and then others full. WE RECOMMEND: Home Girls - items of distinction that are diverse and good quality for reasonable rates Lisa's Boutique - selection of clothing that are upwardly mobile yet affordable Practical Posh - an extravaganza of antiquities and practical collectibles for affordable costs The Thrift Shop (next to The Vintage Barn) - relatively new - this little shop is a great place to grab an item or two when you are in a pinch and need something extra to wear - very affordable The Vintage Barn - entertaining, highly-unusual, a trip for the senses - loved by New York designers who have come through Carthage and stopped in - this shop is listed on North Carolina's film-making website for props and character establishments EATERIES: The Hibachi Grill - warmed sushi (it is good) and other delights Buggy Town Coffee - gathering place for musicians and performers with modern coffees and teas with edibles that will accentuate cholesterol but are delicious! They also feature organics, save the environment return mugs, dietary edibles and other benefits There are additional fooderies such as, McDonald's, Hardees, Bojangles, Subway, Steve's Pizza, Ronnie's Chuckwagon, The Soup Company, Pete's, and Pizza Hut, etc. Most of these locations require a little driving but no more than three (3) miles. HIDDEN GEMS: Supreme Fruitcakes (about fifteen minutes) an extremely "fun" place to visit - especially at Christmas for their taste-testing and store that features fruitcakes, candies, chocolates, chutney, jams, etc. and a selection of tea service sets and high-scale Christmas decor. Pinehurst - this is an internationally known golf community and features high-end restaurants with entertainment; also the golf community and a suite of greens to participate. This an excellent walking community for an evening dinner, dancing and window shopping. Seagrove - about thirty minutes - Seagrove features the acclaimed potters of North Carolina and their wares . . . worth the trip! Southern Pines - is a quaint southern community with the Sunrise Theatre for live community performances and films, there is a weekly craft fair, there are weekly concerts that are free to the public, and many locations to enjoy a solid meal and/or lite fare. Aberdeen - place to go for Belk's, Lowe's, Bed Bath Beyond, Walmart, Harris Teeter, Dick's, PetsMart, etc. Historic Aberdeen - place to go for more antiques and gift shopping coupled with nostalgia. Cameron - antique community - only ten minutes away. Raleigh - one hour north - comedy clubs, eateries, fine dining, cultural events, concerts, etc. Guest access All parts of the home are accessible except the upstairs right bedroom and basement. We typically keep the kitchen private unless agreed on use. The laundry room is on request. Other things to note There is plenty of parking at J. F. Cole House.
