Description
The Tudor barn sleeps up to 25 in quirky and unconventional surroundings. Most of the sleeping arrangements are open plan in Tudor beds in the main barn but there are 4 private bedrooms in the adjoining cartlodge. (Airbnb only offers a max of 16 of our 25 beds!) The barn lies within our environmentally-friendly 500acre working farm down a long drive with meadows, woods and ponds. You can feast at Tudor banquet tables, relax around the woodburner, picnic on the farm, explore the area on bike. The space The cosy underfloor-heated cartlodge has a ground-floor private double with bathroom, a second bathroom accessible to all and a huge, sunny kitchen with a big table (sits 14+). Upstairs there is a twin or triple room (with emergency TV) en route to a tiny twin bedroom. The adjoining main open plan barn has dining tables, a comfortable sitting area around the woodburner and huge open plan sleeping arrangements in comfortable Suffolk-oak beds (four-posters, singles), and the adjoining ‘potting shed’ double has its own loo and basin. A hop, skip and a jump away are the very modern showers and loos. Feasting and gatherings: The large well-equipped kitchen has 21st century facilities - and we’ll unpack your supermarket delivery, give you tips on the best local food and drink and if you’d rather not cook yourselves, we’ll put you in touch with a local chef. Enjoy the barbecue and croquet on summer evenings. Dress up for a Tudor banquet: Borrow our period costumes, eat off wooden platters, drink ale from goblets and dance by candle-light to madrigals ... And the children can delve in the dressing up box and put on a play. Some guests never leave the barn for the whole of their stay. You can enjoy walking our farm trails, playing rounders or football or in the summer picnic in a wildflower meadow; you can borrow our adult road bikes and enjoy our circular planned cycle routes/Wool Town bike quiz on quiet country roads; you can hire kayaks/canoes locally and boat down the River Stour; or just use the bunkhouse as a base to do your own thing in this accessible but very rural part of Suffolk (we’ve got a long list of suggestions). Note about heating in winter: This is not remotely like sleeping in a 21st century heated hotel. Whilst there is underfloor heating in the cartlodge end, the main barn is heated by a giant woodburner and a daytime blower heater which must be turned off at night. When you wake up in the morning the main barn will be chilly until you turn the heater on again. A sense of adventure and woolly sweaters are essential. Guest access Guests can access the entire Tudor barn, the garden either side of the barn and enjoy our 500 acre environmentally-friendly working farm. Other things to note Please particularly note the above details about heating in winter - parts of the barn are centrally heated but the main open plan barn area is more primitively heated - read the information carefully! We offer short 2-3 night weekends or 2+ night midweek breaks. Always enquire what we can offer your group as it is difficult to provide booking options for all type groups without discussing options via Airbnb messaging.
