Description

You have arrived at home - in your special home-away-from-home! You can relax and breath in deeply, a feeling of ease, welcome and belonging. Nestle in and feel right at home in your sweet and peaceful room-for-one in our quiet upscale and very safe neighborhood, among the well-groomed yards and lush green canopy of mature trees, just at the edge of the bustling city. Enjoy the convenience of easy on-street parking with permit, and Wifi in your room, for your computer and your smart TV. The space (HOLIDAY-TIME LIMITATIONS: Four days before and after THANKSGIVING and four days before and after CHRISTMAS, the main kitchen will not be available for guests. You can grab breakfast and coffee at the public café at the hospital just three blocks away. As well as lunch and dinner. Also, just 1 1/2 miles to 2 miles away in Bethesda are about 150 restaurants. At other times guests have full access to the shared kitchen!) WELCOME! Welcome to our relaxing, beautiful, tree-shaded, DC-suburb home! (Enter the house using a numerical key-code on the front door.) Beauty, whimsy, delight and practicality - these are a part of your stay! YOUR BEDROOM SPACE: There is peace, beauty and practicality in this simple, green, one-person room. The colorful modern-designed wool rug is an unexpected yet perfect match with the old-fashioned lacey décor of curtains and tablecloth. You have the practicality of ample closet space with 6 feet of short hanging space and six drawers for your clothes, and a well-stocked desk with a small bookcase to help you organize your things. And, also tucked away in this room, in a space that only you know of, is a stash of hand puppets, some games including Chinese checkers, and a library of travel books to help you dream of your future travels. (Please return all that you use back to where you found them.) (Generally, this room is rented to one adult, for a sweet and peaceful experience. But is can also be ideal to be used as the second bedroom rental for the kids when the parents are renting one of the other spaces in the house. It is best used for one person, but It can accommodate up to 2 well-behaved children – one in the bed and one on the floor on a blowup mattress.) THE HOME and NEIGHBORHOOD: In addition to your personal space, you have access to a nutritionist's kitchen - lots of delightful things to try from the small appliances, (such as the Vitamix and a stand mixer) to a variety of specialty superfoods and superfood powders to try (such as chlorella). Beyond your room/suite, also enjoy the amenities our home and neighborhood offers: • let your creative juices flow in the well-equipped kitchen of a professional nutritionist • bask in the fresh air at the outdoor deck table and watch the squirrels play. • keep your car safe and nearby with ample on and off-street parking • stretch your legs and relax your mind in the pretty neighborhood, great for walking • unwind in exercise, in the outside recreational facilities of the elementary school, just beyond our backyard, with public tennis courts, a soccer field, basketball courts and 4 separate playground centers (great for creative adult workouts, too!) • if you need a little gentle softness in your life, our sweet pet bunny, Albus, will happily keep you oh-so-soft and silent company by the toasty fire. (During Covid, the family room is now off-limits to more than one group of guests, and that requires registration, however, now each space has their own TV.) • For a Grub-Hub delivery fee you can have a delicious local meal at the door in as little as 25 minutes. Bethesda is renown, for their restaurants! The heart of Bethesda is a 1.5 mile walk or a quick Uber drive away. Enjoy! CLEAN WATER Let all of your drinking water be clean Reverse Osmosis water! Reverse Osmosis water is supplied to the rooms and the suites and is always available in the kitchen, in the dedicated facet at the sink to the left. Let all of your showering and cleaning water be chlorine-free! The house is equipped with a whole-house water softening system which eliminates most of chlorine and other toxic elements commonly found in public drinking water. (This is on top of Bethesda already having quite good drinking water!!) CLEAN AIR The filters on the central heat and central air units are inspected and changed regularly. The ducts are professionally cleaned regularly. There are 2 professional-grade air-purifiers, called AirDoctor and several other smaller units. (This is on top of an already relatively green home with mostly wood furniture, and hardwood floors with mostly wool area rugs.) CLEAN SURFACES Touch-points are sanitized regularly. A DEVELOPING HEALTH HOME TOURISM (HHT) DESTINATION! Experience, enjoy and learn in this developing Health Home Tourism (HHT) destination – an AirBnB experience expressed in the style of a licensed nutritionist! The full HHT destination experience is slated to be complete by 2023. In the meantime, I welcome you to experience and enjoy the nurturance of a wide variety of health-enhancing lifestyle tools in the kitchen, family room, bathroom and bedroom. There is a growing list of available immersive health experiences which I am making available to my HHT guests. Please let me know how I can best support your health and healthy lifestyle, by letting me know what you liked about what you were able to try, from what was provided, and by sharing your ideas of additional immersive health experience offerings I might be able to add in an AirBnB setting. New lifestyle visions start upon arrival with the beautiful architectural raised bed vegetable garden in the front yard! If you come in the “right” season, you are welcome to any excess harvest from that time. The “excess” produce now are usually things like radishes and grape leaves – but I am working long-term on more fun harvests like figs from my fig tree and my persimmon tree – which are now still babies and not yet producing fruit. Just past the front foyer, enjoy the musical instruments which are available for your use. I have a piano, a trumpet, a clarinet and djembe drum! (And a variety of other misc music makers!). Music is joy and joy is health!! And, the highlight, please enter the kitchen. It is the kitchen of a Maryland licensed Nutritionist, well stocked with some fun small appliances such as a Vitamix, a glass-canistered Tribest personal blender, an 11-cup Cuisinart Food Processor, a KitchenAid stand mixer, a toaster oven which rotisseries meats, a Lotus Sanitizing System, An iSi Professional Gourmet (Cream) Whip Plus, and a full supply of Pyrex storage containers, stainless steel cookware, cast iron cookware, several fermentation systems, knives, etc, and organized in a Julie-Child’s-Kitchen kind of way were it is easy to see a great deal of what is available with a quick visual scan. The front and back porches are pleasant, with deck tables and chairs, and are a great way to enjoy the weather and watch the playful squirrels and abundant birds. Enjoy the basketball hoop in the backyard, along with a variety of basic sporting equipment for your use and pleasure, such as a basketball, a soccer ball, field hockey sticks and ball, lacrosse sticks and balls, sidewalk chalk and a kite! Be inspired to enhance your life!! And then relax in your well-loved room! Once you enter the front door, take the stairs up to your personal green lacy room. At the top of the stairs, It's the first room on your left!! (And the shared bathroom is the second door on your left.) Guest access PARKING: PARKING ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE Parking in front of my house is fully available on the weekends, and outside of the hours of 9am to 5pm on the weekdays, Monday through Friday. PARKING ON THE STREET PARALLEL TO MINE, HEMPSTEAD AVE, TOWARDS THE BACK. Parking Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm requires that you are put on my electronic parking permit in order to park on the street in front of my house, OR you park on Hempstead Ave, which is the street parallel to my street (which is Garfield Street) and just beyond my backyard neighbor, on the other side of the short walking path. Let me explain how to get to that open parking area. In order to have something to put into your GPS, to find the block that I am referring to, please put in: 8629 Hempstead Ave. (This is the house just behind my house.) You will see that there are many available places to park along that block defined by house numbers from 8608 to 8629 on Hempstead Ave. It is the block with: 8629 Hempstead 8627 Hempstead 8625 Hempstead 8623 Hempstead 8621 Hempstead 8619 Hempstead 8617 Hempstead 8615 Hempstead 8613 Hempstead 8611 Hempstead 8609 Hempstead You can park anywhere on that block, on either side of the street, without having to worry about a parking violation. Do read the signs to confirm this, as well. The way to drive there from my house is that you take a right out of my driveway, going south on Garfield Street. Take a right at the first Street, at the stop sign onto McKinley Street. Then go a short block to the first street, and take a right onto Hempstead Avenue. Park close to the highest numbers given, like 8629 and 8627 Hempstead Ave. Those are the closest to the walking path which goes to my house. REGISTERING YOUR CAR FOR A PARKING PERMIT: This is something that I need to do for you, because you would be on my parking permit and only residents can obtain parking permits. I have the maximum of two, for my guests. If you are coming with a car - this includes a rental car. They require pretty comprehensive information. To register your car for an electronic parking permit, I will need the following information: YOU: Name, email, phone number. YOUR CAR: make, model, year, color, license plate number, state of the license plate. METRO to DC - and other Metro-served locations: There are two Red Line Metros either a long walk (1.5 miles to the Medical Center Metro on a pretty wooded path, and 1.7 miles to the Bethesda Metro) or a short Uber or a short bus ride away. The bus you would take is number 47, it is 1.5 blocks from my house, north on Greentree, and it is $1. To DOWNTOWN BETHESDA: Downtown Bethesda is a fun, happening, quaint, and sophisticated town with over 150 restaurants - there is something for everyone! It is a short bus ride (#47), a short Uber ride or a long walk away. Once in Downtown Bethesda, there is a free "Circular 8" bus to help you get around Bethesda. Enjoy! NEIGHBORHOOD: It is a lovely neighborhood to walk and jog in! Just step out the front door and enjoy the peaceful tree-lined streets in this established neighborhood! Walk "behind" the house to find the great playground equipment of the local elementary school. Yes, you may borrow my tennis racquets to play tennis on the free public tennis courts! SUMMARY: There is easy street parking all around, with the neighborhood parking permit which I provide for you, or parking on the street behind me - Hempstead Ave. When you come, initially, before you have the permit, please pull into the driveway to unload. (The permit is needed for street parking M-F 9-5. All other times you can park on the street without a permit. There are two Red Line Metros either a long walk (both are 1.6 miles) or a short Uber or a short bus ride away (bus number 47). It is a lovely neighborhood to walk and jog in! During your stay Welcome to my home! I have great availability to greet and help in every way! I have two jobs - one using my home office (which is my primary job), and one a mile away - so I am always close and usually available either in person or by phone. I don't make meals for guests, but I can guide you to your use and clean-up of the various small appliances and kitchen tools, if you are interested. I also love talking about my beloved neighborhood, my city of Bethesda, and the awesome city of Washington, DC!! You are welcome to borrow my DC guide books.
