Description

Renovated 100 yr. old farmhouse on a historic homestead with fruit orchards, hayfields and abundant wildlife.Host lives up the hill on otherside of the barn. Across valley from Mesa Verde National Park. Located between Cortez and Dolores. Minutes from Phil's World and Boggy Draw mountain bike and hiking trail systems. House is dog and mtn. bike friendly, large fenced yard and massive deck with stunning views. Wheelchair friendly—ramps, few stairs, low profile shower. Three night minimum stay. The space 1400 sq ft. open and sunny one level house flows smoothly from the kitchen/ dining area past stone fireplace and through common living spaces into the private bedrooms. No air conditioning but at 6500 ft. and multiple windows and floor fans the space stays comfortable, plus a fenced in side yard and large deck provides a place to grill, eat, relax and take in the view of Mesa Verde and the Ute and La Plata mountains. Quiet and surrounded by canyon, hay fields and orchard there is a constant migration of birds of prey, song birds, deer, elk, prairie dogs, on a rare occasion bears and mountain lions and spiders, mice, wasps... we will certainly do all we can to keep them out of the house, but not guaranteed! Guest access Accessed by a paved county road between Dolores and Cortez. Gravel driveway and parking area. Eight minutes (4.3 miles) from Dolores where there is a small but well stocked village market, a brewery, cidery and bike shop. Fifteen minutes from Cortez which has two larger grocery stores, restaurants, and other amenities. Also 25 minutes from Mancos with its art district, cidery, brewery and famous bakery. Other things to note Quiet rural setting with stunning views and lots of wildlife. Nearby national park and public lands: 12.3 miles/15 minutes to the Mesa Verde National Park entrance, 6.2 miles/10 minutes to the Canyons of the Ancients Visitors Center and Museum, 12 miles/18 minutes to the McPhee lake marina, and 47.5 miles/1 hours to Hovenweep National Monument. Nearby mountain biking and hiking trails: 4.2 miles/7 minutes to the Phil's World North trial head. 5 miles/8 minutes to the Phil's World Cash Canyon trial head. 7.2 miles/11 minutes to the original Phil's World trailhead, and 8.7 miles/15 minutes to the main Boggy Draw trail head. Perfect base for longer excursions to sightsee other mountain towns like Durango, Telluride, Mancos and drive the San Juan Skyway or explore the San Juan National Forrest and cultural wonders in the Four Corners region.
