A peaceful retreat in our Colonial style home. This is a listing for 2 or 3 guests in TWO bedrooms. The first has a queen size bed for 2 (see our separate listing for this room only), and the second room has a twin (single) size bed for one person. This is a good option when traveling with one child, or for two traveling companions who want separate beds. Sorry, non-smokers only. We are fully COVID vax+boost, hopefully you will be too. These TWO guest rooms sleep a maximum of THREE (3) people. If you want ONE bedroom for 1 or 2 people, please see our other listing. We have traveled often with AirBnB and know that guests prefer a variety of interactions. We are happy to leave you alone, and happy to engage in conversation. We can provide excellent advice on dining, travel tips, recreation and antiquing in our region. The first guest room is upstairs on the NE corner of the house, and it is dark at night, particularly in the summer time. In the morning the two large windows let in plenty of sunlight. You can close the blinds if you need it darker. You might hear a faint train whistle in the night, and the murmur of distant traffic. The second guest room (just across from the first) is on the front of the house and has three bright windows (with blinds). A good twin bed sleeps one person. We use the big table regularly for projects and preparing play mats, which get packaged in this room. (see photos) These rooms are ONLY offered to the same group of travelors, so you will never bump into strangers in the bathroom. We have two dogs (see photos) and also two super friendly cats; Willow and Zoomer. The litter box is in a closed basement room. To enter our home there is a porch with a new concrete sidewalk and steps to the front door (see photos). We completed a new entry portico in late 2020, which includes handrails. If necessary, guests can enter through the garage, where there are three steps and handrails. The guest room is up a regular flight of carpeted stairs. The bathroom has permanently set hand holds for safety in the shower. The gazebo and backyard patio is accessed by stairs with handrails. If you want some private indoor space that is not your room, feel free to hang out in our finished basement, where there is a leather love seat and chair (well worn, but comfortable). A good spot to read. Our backyard is lush and large, and includes a screened gazebo, an upper deck and a lovely lower patio. A pot of hot coffee (1/2 reg & 1/2 decaf) is on every morning. You can put food in our kitchen refrigerator. No parties, events or illegal activity please. Quiet time is 10:00 pm, particularly on work nights. Guitar players welcome. Please respect our neighbors by parking on our driveway only, and not being loud outside. Your room is furnished for TWO (2) people only. Our main goal is to have guests feel comfortable and leave feeling refreshed for a new day of travel and exploration. Our neighborhood is compact and quiet. Please park only on the right side of the driveway, in the big spot between the street and our sidewalk. We ask that guests not be loud outside or be annoying to our neighbors. If at all possible, please arrive by 8:00 pm, or check-in earlier, before going to dinner. It is important that you meet the dogs before coming home late at night. Thanks in advance. We live in the Gale's Manor neighborhood, which is a development of just 16 homes. The houses were built in 1999 and have city utility services. It is a quiet block where neighbors know one another. We are in a mixed residential / rural corridor. There are busy streets not so far away (which can be heard at times), but our back yard is like an urban sanctuary, with a small pond, big trees, shrubs, and flowers. Our yard borders a wooded wetland area and stream, and you may see hawks, heron, deer, opossum, raccoons, fox, groundhogs and the elusive squirrel. A wide variety of wild birds visit our feeders daily. Our guest guide lists 25 locally owned restaurants north of the river (no toll) and another 15 south of the river (return toll). There are more, but the list is of places we like best. Most of those serve Maryland crab dishes. The Hollywood Casino is just minutes from our house and has entertainment, food, drink and gambling. We also have a very popular sushi restaurant just down the street. Perryville - Exit 93 - is a good gas and convenience store stop, and just down on Route 40 is a good grocery store, Subway, Dunkin Donuts, and Walgreens. Pizza Tower or Pat's Pizza have large menus with good food and delivery. Downtown Perryville is along the Susquehanna River, and is home to historic Rodgers Tavern (a museum), the new 5th Company Brewery, and the Boxcar ice cream shop. The Amtrak train has a depot in Perryville. The Perry Point VA center is just a few minutes from home. The Perryville Community Park is well worth a visit. Forget walking or jogging nearby roads, unless you have a death wish. If you want to do those things, the Perryville Community Park and the Perryville VA center are a few minutes away, and offer excellent walking or biking opportunities along the Chesapeake Bay, you might even see an eagle or two. These two areas connect, and are very nice to visit. The two bridges over the Susquehanna River - the Tydings Bridge on I-95 and the Hatem Bridge on Route 40, are both toll bridges NORTH BOUND. The toll is $6. There are good dining choices without paying the tolls, but if you want to spend some time in the delightful town of Havre de Grace, you will end up paying the Hatem Bridge (route 40) toll to get back over the river into Perryville. The town of North East is on our side of the river and 10-15 minutes away, it has good restaurants, bars, antiques and local boutique shopping (also Lowes, Auto Zone, Walmart). There is a nice lighthouse hike beyond North East. In the winter months eagle watching and photography are a popular activity at the Conowingo Dam. The dam is also the trailhead for a nice level walk or shady bike ride along the Susquehanna River, and connects to Susquehanna State Park. The Conowingo Dam is 20 minutes away (and is the only FREE north bound river crossing nearby). Our dogs are friendly and well socialized, but get excited when company arrives. Tucker will want to greet you with enthusiasm, but Maggie needs time to warm up to new people, and will bark at first. We try to meet guests outside when they arrive, which works great with the dogs. The dogs can sleep in our bedroom at night, which is the norm for Maggie. Unfortunately, the cat Zoomer can open our bedroom door in the middle of the night. We are working on that. When you arrive, please take a few minutes and get to know the dogs, so they get your scent and know you are friendly. We will help with that of course.
