Peaceful, quiet, modern home / cabin. One bedroom plus large loft. Off grid with solar panels. Near the Royal Gorge, Arkansas river, Cañon City, rafting, and more. Beautiful views in the day and stars at night. A great place to relax and get away from it all. In addition to the nearby attractions, there is lots of land to roam around and explore. The Copper Gulch Ranch is situated in an area known as Webster park. It is named for Copper Gulch which is an arroyo that flows through the property down to the Arkansas River. Copper Gulch has mostly dried up in recent times, but it does pick up moisture closer to the Arkansas River. A long time ago Webster park used to be a lake. As the climate changed, the lake dried up and left this relatively flat area that is mostly used for grazing cattle. There is a small herd of cows and calves that graze over 1000 acres including the Copper Gulch Ranch. Its such a small herd with such a large grazing area that you may not actually see them, but they’re really cute. Please keep the gates closed at all times and no hunting is allowed. Guests have access to the entire property. Email and text and the best ways to get a hold of me. In an emergency, the neighbors are friendly and there is a list of contacts at the cabin. Att and Verizon both have good coverage out there. There are lots of things to do and see nearby. The Royal Gorge and Arkansas River rafting are the biggest tourist draws, but you’re welcome to stay here and just relax in peace and quiet. Historic downtown Cañon City is an easy 20 minute drive up and down 8 mile hill on Hwy 50. About 10 minutes away on the top of 8 mile hill is the turn off to the Royal Gorge. The nearest restaurant, "My Sister's Place", is up there, too, and has good green chile. Also off Hwy 50 on the way to Cañon City is Red Canyon. There is a dedicated off road vehicle park there, as well as hiking and mountain biking trails and scenic views. Past Cañon City there is the fun town of Florence (30 min) with lots of antique stores, a microbrewery, restaurants, etc. Up the Arkansas River Valley (Hwy 50) there is a general store in Cotapaxi. Further up the canyon (about 60 min) is Salida, a fun touristy town nestled between mountain ranges. Monarch Pass and Monarch Mountain ski area are about an 1 hour and 20min drive up Hwy 50 as well. If you continue up Copper Gulch Road about 45 min you will end up in the picturesque mountain town of Westcliffe, the gateway to the rugged Sangre de Cristo mountains. Don’t feel like driving anywhere? There is plenty to explore by foot or mountain bike nearby, including a trail to the Arkansas River. Please contact us for further details about hiking or biking opportunities. Note there lots of cactus, so sturdy footwear is suggested. In addition to using 100% solar electricity, we use environmentally friendly cleaning products and paper goods. Part of the driveway is circular, so there is easy parking for vehicles towing trailers. We recently added a TV. It is connected to the WiFi and there is a DVD player. There are no satellite or cable TV services. Generally, its cool and dry up there due to the altitude and climate. It can be hot in the summer, though, however It usually cools off at night. Because of this, there is no A/C. Opening the windows at night and closing the windows and shades during the day will help keep it cool. On occasion it can be hot even in the night, though. We added a grill on the shady downstairs patio, too, so you don't have to heat up the house cooking. There is a well equipped kitchen but no dishwasher. Please be respectful of the other guests and wash the dishes that you use. We have recently upgrade the internet service. The download speed is 25Mbps. We use a local ISP. The ping times are good and it works well for video chat and remote work. My wife and I have both routinely work from there. Our neighbors have recently added a horse boarding service, if interested, let us know.
