Description
We restored this beautiful historic cabin ourselves and brought it into the modern day. We designed and built it by hand -- a journey of over 7 years. This location is only 35 minutes to Aspen, 20 minutes to Glenwood and 10 minutes into downtown Carbondale. It is an ideal place to explore the whole Roaring Fork Valley. This cozy destination is rough on the outside but sophisticated on the inside; and shows a whole lot of heart. The space The building is a gem. You'll notice tons of original details in this historic cabin. There is a rustic character to the place, like the turn-of-the-century logs, but with modern luxuries like radiant-heat. The original subfloor is now the herringbone detail of the loft, and the original exterior cabin door has retired to be the bathroom door. We installed huge windows and French doors, both to let in natural light (adding to the energy efficiency of the home through Solar Gain) and to take advantage of the scenic beauty of rural Colorado. We really care about the details, so we built as green and as conscientiously as we could. During construction we were conscious of our product choices by avoiding VOCs and incorporating many recycled materials into the finished product. Examples of this priority are our use of wool carpeting and an all-natural carpet pad, the kitchen repurposed granite and cabinetry from an Aspen remodel, and the doors, windows, fixtures (and more) were either purchased at Habitat for Humanity or other second-hand stores. Other things we built ourselves, such as the medicine cabinet. And now you can enjoy a soak in the vintage clawfoot bathtub! The loft has a queen size organic bed and a bed frame that has no California prop 95 warning. The loft is very cozy-- just be mindful of your head. The queen bed is also only accessible by a ladder. While the cabin is on grade (level), if you have trouble with ladders you can use the foldout couch. In this rural setting you will get to enjoy the natural landscape. Away from the city noise and lights, you'll see more stars at night than you can imagine. Wildlife abounds. Please note that you will need a vehicle that can handle a dirt driveway. During winter we have it plowed regularly, but your trip may be affected by fresh snow; so please plan accordingly. The cabin shares a wall with our own home. We keep to ourselves, but we do have a young family. You might see or hear us through the wall or outside (even more so in warmer weather). As we are the builders, and we are still making small improvements to the property, there are materials and trailers around. Please treat our home with respect. We look forward to hosting you! Guest access Parking is available on site. Other things to note -The tall French doors are a bit fancy, and confuse many people. To close (and to lock) them, you have to lift the handle Up! Although the doors close easily, they are not latched shut without that process. -The cabin does not have privacy shades. -When checking out please do your dishes, throw your trash in the garbage can outside, and leave the place as you found it. -Because there is radiant heat, it takes a very long time to change the air temperature. We like to keep it at 69/70 degrees, and would prefer you not change it. Please note radiant does not mean the floor is warm. -We turn the Wi-Fi off from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. If this is something that you need, please just let us know and we can make it available. -There is no smoking or vaping of any kind on the property. Smoking on the property will result in a $600 fine. Also there are no pets or animals allowed. We frequently host friends and family in this space that have allergies and/or asthma. Pets and smoking are not tolerated. Undisclosed pets will result in a $500 fine.
