Description
This quiet, off-grid retreat will allow you to escape the hustle and bustle, recharge, and immerse yourself in the sounds of nature. The 440 m walk to the cabin through the woods will enable you to decompress before you arrive. There's a cleared hiking or snowshoe trail for you to enjoy that goes beyond the cabin. The cabin lacks running water and electricity. We will provide water, lanterns, wood, and a small generator/battery to charge your phone and lanterns during your stay. The space The cabin is an insulated 16x20 timber frame tucked amongst the trees along a trail through the forest. The cabin is approximately 1 km away from the owner's residence. It's completely private, while only a 5-minute drive to Perth. It sits on 100 acres of land to explore. The cabin shares a laneway and house number as the owner's residence, but has a separate land boundary. There's no electricity or running water. An airtight wood stove is its only heat source, and there's a propane stove for cooking. What we will provide: Water A minimum of 4 gallons of water per night of your stay. Please let us know before your check-in date if you think you'll require more. There is an additional tank of water for cleaning and personal hygiene during spring, summer, and fall, before freezing temperatures arrive. Wood 2 full tote boxes of wood per night of your stay. This amount is enough to keep you warm on even the coldest of nights. You will want to check in early to ensure you have enough time to warm up the cabin before you sleep. Heating everything in the cabin will take time, but it will require less time and energy once it's warm. Woodstove instructions will be provided upon your arrival. Woodstove A Jotul woodstove to heat the cabin during cooler temperatures Stove There is a propane stove and oven for cooking and heating water for personal hygiene if necessary. Please read the instructions carefully upon arrival. Power Upon your arrival, a Jackery battery will be charged. It can be used to power a reading light, fan, and to charge your cell phones and computers if necessary. Light Four rechargeable lanterns and two headlamps will be provided. It's recommended that you bring your own headlamp if you plan to arrive after dark, to give sufficient light for your walk to the cabin. Fire Pit An outdoor firepit. We will provide a saw to cut deadwood from around the property for an outdoor fire. The cut wood provided is intended for use in the woodstove only. The fire pit can not be used when there is a full or partial fire ban in Tay Valley. A wagon or a Sled One of these will be provided at the parking spot upon your arrival. It can be used to bring in your belongings. Additional Items Bedding, towels, facecloths, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and toilet paper. Guest access You'll turn left onto our driveway after our mailbox and PIN. Approximately 200m down our laneway, there's a clear parking spot with a small wooden shed. You will find the wagon, or sled, in the shed. Just beside the parking spot, there's a tripod structure made of cedar rails to mark the start of the cabin trail. The trail to the cabin is 440m, and the cabin will be on your left. The cabin will be open upon arrival, but a key will be provided if you wish to lock your belongings during a day trip. Other things to note Instructions for the camp stove, wood stove, outhouse, and Jackery battery will be provided upon arrival.
