Relax with your family at our peaceful home just a few short steps from the beach, pond, and hiking trails of Roque Bluffs State Park. Hummingbird Hollow, aka Schoppee House, is a lovingly updated two bedroom cottage nestled between the ocean and state park land. Enjoy ocean views, salt air, and the sound of waves. A quick walk to the beach or pond, you’re not too far away to run back for lunch or take an afternoon nap. Note: The house is fully heated and also suitable for the cooler months! Hummingbird Hollow is an 1818 historic cape with two bedrooms (new mattresses and new linens), a comfortable living room, which includes a gas fireplace for chilly evenings , a fully equipped kitchen (full sized stove, refrigerator, new dishes, glasses, a wide variety of pots and pans, including a lobster pot, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and basic cooking spices) and a dining space large enough for eight to ten people with a dry bar to enjoy with gorgeous sunset views. We can definitely be available to help our guests throughout their stay. They will be able to call or text us as needed, and during the summer months we will be literally next door to help…but don’t worry, we won’t be over every morning for coffee! We will definitely give our renters privacy. Roque Bluffs is such a hidden gem, and our spot out at the end of Schoppee Point Road is amazing! At the end of Schoppee Point Road there is a small harbor and a public boat launch. Across the street you can often get fresh lobster from our neighbor and schedule a private boat trip around the local islands with him, too! Just a minute walk in the opposite direction and you can be at the beach or the pond, pick fresh blueberries in the park during August, or attend an event at the Roque Bluffs Community Center. The town of Machias is about twelve minutes away, and there you will find ample opportunities to buy groceries. Whether it be from Hannaford, the French Cellar- our local wine and cheese shop, vendors on the dike selling locally grown produce, or from our two other local, small market places, such as the Whole Life Market, you’ll have everything you need! There are also several restaurants in town, Helen’s and the Bluebird, to name two, plus gas stations for your convenience. If you feel like a short trip, you can easily get to Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor, or go the opposite direction to hike at Quoddy Head, visit the quaint towns of Eastport or Lubec, or head over the border to Campobello Island - all accessible for a day trip. You can easily walk (literally a minute or two) over to the beach or the pond, and you can walk or drive up to the entrance of the hiking trails. Parking everywhere is easy...at the house there is a driveway with plenty of space, and anywhere around Roque Bluffs or in the town of Machias is also easy parking. We are new to being hosts but we have stayed at many, many rentals over the years. Based on our experiences we have tried to anticipate all the things that might help make our guests comfortable. We really do want everything to be perfect! If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to reach out. As soon as we tick off all of our finishing touches we’ll get more pictures up…especially for the dining/sunroom area, which we anticipate to be a favorite spot in the house!!
